I'm not big on Scouse bashing but they do seem to suffer quite badly from nostalgia <laugh>

I wouldn't consider Keegans return a move to exorcise a hero and show the fans he was past it.
The whole world of football was stunned by that move.
Dalglish on the other hand was already at the club and the media played a big part in him getting the managers job.
If Keegan didn't have Wise and Vetere ****ing things up I think he would have managed to improve us.
We wouldn't have won anything but we would have been a steady 7-12 team and not been relegated.
Dalglish doesn't seem to have anyone undermining him. He has had the luxury of a media love in but is doing his upmost to ruin that.

You forgot Hamann and the legend that was Ketsbaia. Dalglish didn't have a bad purchasing record for us to be honest.

Dalgleishes signing of over 1 million (worth more then than today)

Des Hamilton MID Bradford City £2,000,000
its fair to say a poor signing

    Shay Given GKR Blackburn £1,500,000
very good along with Solano best

Jon Dahl Tomasson FWD Heerenveen £2,500,000
poor for us (when he played in a friendly aginst celtic before Sherarers injury looked great, money on him was recouped and went on to play well elsewhere)

Alessandro Pistone DEF Inter Milan £4,500,000
Not great sold to everton at 1.5m loss

Andreas Andersson FWD AC Milan £3,000,000
Poor sold at 2 million loss

Andy Griffin DEF Stoke City £1,500,000
    OK

    Gary Speed MID Everton £5,500,000
Served club well but didnt hit form until SBR arrived, value for money but not a bargain

    Nicos Dabizas DEF Olympiakos £2,000,000
Value for money but not bargain

    Stephane Guivarc'h FWD Auxerre £3,500,000
Sold almost immediately for sam as cost.

Dietmar Hamann MID Bayern Munich £4,500,000
Sold for 3.5 million more than bought for, good player

Nolberto Solano MID Boca Juniors £2,500,0
    See Shay Given

Of the players under 1 million only Pearce, Kets and possibly Barnes (all free) were half decent

I think the major gripe is his sales though

As everyone knows, I like Kenny and thought he did ok for us. Unfortunately the communication from our board at the time, and the lack of patience of some fans (gloryhunters galore came under KK) meant his work was never really appreciated. You have to remember he was not the out of touch Liverpool have now. People forget so quickly that Dalglish was under strict instructions to reduce the wage bill.

I think I saw an article once which mapped out his entire expenditure whilst manager. It worked out he spent 5m per season. Given the previous managers seasonal budgets and that contained within those two years with us was an enforced turnover of personnel/wage reduction, that was pretty good going. Then you look at his other work. He reinstated the youth system and reserve set up, and persuaded the then board to begin the process of reinvesting in the youth team. (we are benefitting from this decision now as Ashley has sensibly built on the foundations laid) He signed the majority of the blue chip brigade which served us so well under Bobby Robson. The likes of Solano, Speed, Given, you'll find it difficult to put a value on those guys monetary wise.

Basically he needed time which wasn't on offer because the fans couldn't take a step back and look at the bigger picture. That is not a criticism of the fans either. We were spoilt under KK and the boards unwillingness to communicate the need to sell to balance the crazy books, meant fans had become accustomed to money being spent and no one was telling them it would be different. They wanted to be the PR driven much loved board.

I'm not being lured into your warped world of rep Albert. I've seen the effect in can have on a mans psyche! Thank you nevertheless. I will rep you just this once just because you likened NMG to a turd.
