I know he's past it, he's 34(going to be 35 in the summer) and his wages must be quite high because of his pedigree and caliber in Europe, but seeing as he's a free agent and he might be interested in ending his career in a high.. why not do it in the ''best'' league in the world? He's still a goalscorer(although nowhere near as prolific as before) but I'll reckon with speedy/pacey wingers helping him out and Barton's quality passing/delivery's he could be very useful. Bags of experience and a 1 year contract wouldn't be bad.

    Just a thought though..

    Barton Tiote Nolan
    Ben Arfa Ruud Gervinho

    OR

    Barton Tiote
    Gervinho/Vargas Ireland Ben Arfa
    Ruud

    Opinions?

Surely going to go to someone like Blackburn, seem as though their owners are intent on signing a star.

I want us to go for someone younger. Ideally the two strikers I want to sign are Gervinho and then an out and out striker who is young, low wages and that has the potential to become a star. Sadly I don't know who, but my ideal formation next season is three up front...

    Ben Arfa----New Striker----Gervinho

That would be class if we can get the right player to play in the middle, sadly Judas would have been perfect for it, oh well!

How about Daniel Sturridge? Young, reasonable wages(we could afford) and has the potential to be a great striker, he's already a good one but I'm not sure if he's ready for Chelsea just yet.. maybe a 15m offer would tempt them?

Sturridge wont leave Chelsea IMO, they will want to see how he develops after this season at Bolton. If he did go there'll easily be 10 clubs in for him from the PL alone and him being English and overrated, he'll cost nearly half our budget as you said. Dont know what kind of wages he's on.

If he leaves Chelsea, he'll go to Bolton, as he's been there on loan and seems to enjoy it there.

Sturridge is the sort of player I'd like, but probably unrealistic sadly. I can't think of any young players with premiership experience that we could realistically sign though...any other ideas?

Yeah this is my sort of ideal formation too. Think this is the general preference round the forum at the minute, what with all the talks of Gervinho.

Ruud is undoubtedly an incredible player...or was. I see this sort of acquisition as possibly nothing more than a last resort if we don't sign anyone big, or purely as back up.

Doubt we'll get Sturridge. Chelsea won't sell in my opinion, and if anyone manages to take him it'd probably be Bolton.
Our best bet is someone like Gameiro or Sow I reckon.

I'm torn. He'd get goals without a doubt and would be a fantastic player for Best and Ranger to learn from. If he was partnered with someone like Gervinho and his wages werent ridiculous, I think I'd take him.

    Also good shouts.

Plenty of options out there, though the question is whether or not we'll actually enquire about any of them

Maybe to Ba for me too. Doubt he'll leave West Ham in the summer though, unless they go down of course.

Ruud would be a VERY richer mans' replacement for Kuqi. His 1 year contract would be a playing one but if he turns out decent/moderately good then we could possibly extend it to a second season although it could be a playing-coach role :)

Doesn't sound so bad eh? definitely think he's worth a punt. At reasonable wages and on a 1 year contract.. why not?

Putting it like that it doesn't sound so bad at all....
Entirely dependent upon wages. Though I don't wanna get caught up with other clubs in trying to sign him, would rather be chasing bigger players first.
A few guaranteed goals in him probably though, with good deliverance.

Unless of course City and Blackburn join the party and spoil it :)

Blackburn - Ronaldinho saga = BIG LOLS.
City - More money than sense.

    City aren't that daft, surely?
I reckon a team like Blackburn, or ourselves possibly, would go in for him.
He said he'd come to the Prem League even if he had to play reserves, but to be honest most of the bottom half would jump at the chance to get him and stick him in first team.

It wouldn't be bad to have him in the squad, given chances he will still grab you goals.
However, as you mentioned, his wages are probably quite high.
