If Man City beat Arsenal, we'll be 2pts behind Arsenal with 3 very winnable games coming up, and we are in with a good chance in our last 3 games also IMO. The race for 4th is very much on.

Anyway, if we do finish 4th and in the CL... where does that leave us in terms of transfers and signing players?

Will Ashley be persuaded to fork out the cash for the caliber of players we could potentially sign if we get into the CL?

Our will we just sign cheap miracles again?

I know we can't be silly like we used to be and pay 25 million and hand out 112k a week wages and ****.

But surely, we could raise our wage cap a bit higher than 50k and perhaps pay a decent sum for a few players?

Is it realistic to have a 50k a week wage cap in the CL?

Should it be raised and by how much? Or do we leave it at 50k and offer impressive bonuses?

What sort of players would you reckon we could go for if we finished 4th?

I'm not getting my hopes up that much, but why not class finishing 4th than more than just a dream? It could happen!

IMNotsoHO, I think we can finish anywhere from 3rd to 6th...Provided we grab the points that are there for the taking , don't get upsetted by teams we are supposed to beat(a trademark of NUFC for the past few years you could say), we can finish high, depending on how muchhelp we receive from other teams..

The CL element should allow more cash to flow into NUFC from all areas so we should be able to get quite a few players in. I can't see the wage cap changing much (stability issue). We would hopefully have a bigger squad which in turn could help us in the prem too.
If I were thin Mike I would basically put in place a bonus scheme for the whole squad which pays per win in the CL. That should offset any perceived wage gap and allow non payment if we do ****e.

I really do hope we can make the top 4, it would top such a fantastic season for us.

In regards to the wage question - I would keep our current policy, getting the wage cap set at £50k is a long term thing, a good thing for the club. It would be a knee-jerk reaction to having a great season to change it now and we could possibly be left with players on large wages without champions league football to pay for it in future seasons (as happened before).

I do like the idea of a bonus for doing well in the champions league - but I am confident the club can sort things out. It does seem that one advantage of the cap is we aren't really getting any mercenaries in who are just looking for the pay check, as per recent years and as a result don't give it their all. Getting players like Alan Smith of the books at the end of the season will be advantageous too.

Be under no illusions we will be looking at a few gems come summer, but also buying a few squad players like Perchinio - who don't mind sitting on the bench a lot and can do a job in cover but wont be 1st choice. From what I hear we should be getting a decent number of youth in for the summer too, so we'll be building for future years not just this one.

Didn't I hear that it was about £50mil just for qualifying for the champions league, and then you'll get additional money from sponsors/international shirt merchandise etc in the coming years as your considered a bigger name.

If we got CL I think the best course of action would be to pay off, say, £10m of the debt owed to Ashley and then sign a few good quality players within our £50k wagecap to ensure we challenge for European spots next season.

I don't think we're quite at the stage where one transfer window can make us CL regulars, even if we finish 3rd/4th the aim should still be top 6. It reminds me of Everton's charge into the Champions League, we're in a position to be like them around that time, consistantly pushing the Top4.

I doubt we'll break the wage cap, and we certainly won't give large bonuses, part of MA's business plan is not to have anythin like that.
