I've read all about him, no-one had a bad word to say about him. All i want to ask is this

    How good was he ?

Would've been the best player in the world if he was alive today >

I read a lot of great things about Duncan and how good he really was. One story i read a while back was that Bobby Charlton considered Duncan to be the best Football player he had ever seen.

Let's not forget that Bobby Charlton played alongside the likes of Best and Bobby Moore and had played in matches against Pele so this shows how good some thought he really was.

We will never truly know how good Edwards really could have been due to the disaster that occurred on that dark day in Munich.

    RIP

Maybe not the right question to be asking on a forum such as this. If i remember correctly someone did a thread on her asking peoples ages and the average seemed to be about 24/25. I am a dinosaur at nearly 50 and wasn`t around then.

I doubt anyone on here will have seen him play. My dad saw him play, reckons he was the best he's seen. He reckons all todays players are cheats and wimps mind. Make of that what you will.

I agree with that, players go down to easy in today's game and try to get their opponent sent off.

From what iv'e read he was some player,Bobby Charlton played with and saw most of England's all time greats up until Duncan's premature death.

And he puts him up there with the greats and adds that he had the potential to be the best, and he knows what he's talking about and thats good enough for me.

Sir Bobby Charlton says he was the best. If you've ever seen Sir Bobby talking about Duncan Edwards he always has a glazed, very sad look in his eyes. Edwards obviously meant a lot to him.

I don't know how far back you all go with 606, I stopped posting on it around 2003 when a few regulars set up a United specific board after getting fed up with the WUM abuse, but there was a guy called Tom Clare who was always an interesting read. Tom grew up watching the Babes and idolised Edwards, he has since had a book published about that era. He said that Sir Bobby was a really happy, chirpy character before Munich. Apparently after the tragedy his personality changed and he's always struggled with why he survived when his mates and his hero didn't.

I joined 606 in 2005 and that was just as the BBC created the new layout for 606. I presume you were around when the old style layout was the design of the site before that?

I agree with NOF on this, they only changed the format of 606 because it was impossible for them to control under the old system,i joined when i was working in Texas(to keep in touch with footy at home),when i got home and tried to log on the beeb required i re-join under the new format because of the IP address i joined under.

The old 606 was nothing but arguments.

    A bit like not606.

    <laugh>

I just tried to get some of the comments from back then but the BBC has converted the 606 from those days into 'robot text'. <grr>

I have created an article, which was well received and on topic , maybe you should have a look blows anything you've produced out the water. I have kids mate, so don;t have time to post whatever thoughts are in my head. I expect to wake up one day and read a thread on 'a day in my life' asking things like, "what shall I have for breakfast" "DO i dare go outside of the house" and "how do I attract the opposite sex, when I'm not glued to my pc"

Point being some people are sticking up for you, but I would far prefer to read other people thoughts then the utter crap you spout every hour.

I am too young too have seen him play but from the few clips that I have seen of him i think he is overrated. For instance Edwards was suppose to be very fast but he looks quite slow in the footage that I have seen of him .

Are you sure the video wasn't in slow motion or because it's now so old it's slowed down a bit? He was quicker than Usain Bolt riding Frankel on roller skates.

I was 8 yrs old when my uncle, who originally was from Hazel Grove, took me to my first United match at OT. This was approx 8 months after Munich, and I think Arthur took me there as an excuse, as he was so devastated after Munich that I was used as an alibi to have the courage to go back. For many years after, he used to rave about Edwards, but sadly I never had the chance to see him play. According to Arthur, he had everything, strength, ball control, heading ability and in his opinion was the total football player of his era. At least I had the pleasure of seeing the Holy Trinity play, and my heroes of that era included Nobby Styles and Paddy Crerand, although I doubt if their tackling would survive the modern game

Thanks for the comment noonefamous. sadly, Arthur passed away when I was in my 20's, but thankfully his advice, especially during my wild teenage years, kept me in good stead, and have been a red since that first visit. the only song I could never join in was "Keep the red flag flying here", as memories still leave me with a limp in my throat and a tear in each eye. One bit of advice for all you younger supporters, listen to the words of Mike and the Mechanics "The living years" The line "I just wish I could have told him in the living years" is so true. Well Arthurt, if Sky is available in the next world, i am sure you will have a very satisfied smile. RIP pal, I still miss you
