- interestingly, since the appointment of O'Neil, our league form has been matched, unless you count todays result for us, in which case we are 3 points ahead having played an extra game ...
Ashley has to be given some credit for the turnround- got rid of troublesome players, made money available, chose a manager nobody wanted and now loves, what must he do ?
Ok this is a serious question and not an attempt to piss you lot off so please ansewer it as such You go on about Tiote going down very softly fron Sess's elbow (which he did, although it was still a red) and the same with perch (same as before) and now Jonas as well (he does go down easily but so do most foreign wingers) but have none of you noticed Cattermole is a horrendous diver?
I was thinking more about the 14 game head start we afforded you from early August to the beginning of Decenmber, when we actually stopped playing like twats and started looking like a team again. By the time MoN arrived, you were already way out ahead and the fact we could go seventh this afternoon and still only 12 points behind you, is both testimony to how well we have BOTH performed since December. Its never happened in my lifetime or yours chum, where both NE clubs could finish in the top 7. Thats cause for us both to celebrate I'd have thought? For the first time post war, the NE so called sleeping giants have both performed and had good seasons.
Totally agree Cest. I would much prefer a league where Newcastle and Sunderland are in the top 10 than one where one of us is in the Championship or struggling at the bottom. Makes the derby much better.
Don't you dare tell anyone, as I've built my reputation on mag bashing and bating, but its long overdue for the NE to live up to its decade after decade billing of a hot bed of football. Its something I look forward to getting used to seeing in the future, in us both fight for top places not the wooden spoon. However, like I said don't you dare mention this to the likes of 5/1 hes gay or Chapped Arse, as I prefer to keep wind those 2 plonklers up. Lol
Yes through gritted teeth it has to be said they are doing well and it is all down to two strikers Ba of whom a gamble was made that has worked out and Cisse who cost £10m. Goals do make a big difference do they not, lets hope we can get 1 or 2 strikers in this summer.
Its been a good season and we've worked very hard more than anything. We've got a good team ethic first and foremost and that has give us a stability throughout the season. Of course we have bought little bits of quality here and there. I'd also agree Jonas is one of the best con artists in the league. He buys free kicks left right and centre. And it was play acting to gain an advantage by Tiote and Perch. I just don't know why fans of other teams bring it up because that is modern football unfortunately and every team is at including Sunderland. Its hypocritical of other clubs fans to moan about it but turn a blind eye to their own. Larrsson, Campbell all have play acted to try and gain an advantage. Until the rules are enforced differently across the board, its gonna be who is best at it. Thankfully we're not in the business of looking like the chumps in this regard and long may it continue. Its always the case when you do well, those who would prefer you hadn't look for negatives.
I'm now confident that any players who leave will be replaced with someone of a similar level of ability for a fraction of the cost. We seem very organised and thoroughly prepared, plus i think many of us geordies were quite proud that the club roughly broke even last year (not even taking into account transfer fees) and long term that's more important than europe this season or next. It feels weird to think it after decades of being a shambles but we seem like one of the best run clubs in the premiership - though they always used to say that about boro too...
That's fair do's mentioning 1 or 2 of our players who have at odd times tried to gain an unfair advantage, but I am afraid with Jonas it is a big , big part of his game and he looks to do it several times a game.
Look no further than one Mr Larrson today...He did so well to get the ball to the right of Kabul and there was definitely a leg there, but Larrson dived after zero contact! Jonas goes down very easily, but you'd be hard pushed to find him diving without any contact whatsoever...What he does very well is use his body to get in front of players, they grab his shirt and at the slightest contact, down he goes...It must be massively frustrating for other teams/players who don't go down as easily, but with all the pre-match anaylsis and planning that goes on in the Prem League, surely players know not to grab his shirt full stop!?!?
I will say it again, odd times against several times every game plus there was more contact there than the city penalty last week
http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/matchday/form-guide.html I think Sunderland will do well next season but you'll have to step it up more than you think if we continue in the same form next season.
