Not on behalf of myself but on behalf of football pundits and fans of Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs in general.

I was laughed out the room in November when I said Newcastle had a better squad than Liverpool and would finish above them as well as contend top 4-6.

I've seen nothing but humility from Newcastle fans all along but I think it's about time you got some credit where it's due and people start taking you seriously.

I am sick and tired of people saying top 4 is done and dusted and Chelsea are rank outsiders without giving Newcastle a second thought.

I did the BBC predictor (had you down as beating Swansea 1-0) and Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle all finished on 70 points with you and Spurs just missing out on GD, that's how close I think it will be.

I think the league game between us will end in a draw (and I'd take that). If we don't get top 4 I really hope you do at the expense of the Spuds or Goons (preferably Spuds).

You are as good as us, Arsenal and Spurs and need to start believing that <ok>

    RANT OVER

We're used to it mate. ****ing fat ****s like Merson and all the pundits have been talking **** about us since we came up.

When we first came up "Newcastle need to spend 40 million to stay up", "Newcastle don't have the legs, they'll be in a relegation dog fight".

Then when sold lanky **** Carroll, fat bastard Nolan, twat face Barton and Gaylord Enrique, and replaced 3 of them with better players, they still said "who's gonna score for Newcastle", "they're gonna struggle, they've sold all their best players".

Enrique was the only class player we sold. The other 3 played their part, but Carroll and Nolan were really **** all round players, Barton was just **** stirring.

Pardew is playing everything down, saying Europa is our target. We're keeping our heads in the game and taking things game by game.

The pundits can go **** themselves.

thanks. i'd take a point at your place - maybe we'll get the luck this time after Luiz's foul at our place ;) . Don't want us to get any credit though, I'm happy for us to keep ticking along with no pressure or expectation.

Haha, Tash! I'd forgot about how we'd have to spend at least £40 million to stay up <doh>

Anyway I'd be surprised and delighted if we got 70 points. Unfortunately I think we're just as likely to finish 6th and not get Europe as we are to finish 5th. But if we win our next 4 (unlikely) we'll be in Europe next season for sure

First of all I just want to say thanks for that post.

It's to be expected really tbh. When we initially came back up I thought we were going to have a hard time but this season while many agree that we should have made a couple more investments for a bigger/better squad most weren't bothered that we'd sold off some of our better-known players especially Nolan, Barton and Carroll. I'm still a little bummed Enrique went because he was genuinely class but what can you do, if a player is that desperate to leave then it's sometimes better for everyone if you cut the cancer out.

Anyone who's watched any foreign leagues whatsoever would have known that Cabaye, Santon etc are good players with good attitudes so our spoiled Englishmen wouldn't be missed. All the pundits did though was bleat on about how we'd sold our 'best players'. Obviously I haven't agreed with everything the club have done but on the pitch they've got it pretty much spot on so far.

I think everyone thought that we would fall off at some point including us, and we almost did when we had a wobble in the middle of the season there. Fortunately we managed to grind the results out while playing badly and now we're back on song again. To be fair people have always been saying that the 'real test' is yet to come and now some are saying next season is the 'real test' but it's nice that Pardew and the boys are now getting the credit they deserve. They have done us proud this season, if we can keep it going right to the end things could get very interesting! Best of luck to Chelsea also, within reason of course!

Good post. The southern media bias against Newcastle has a long history. I remember when we won our last major trophy (the Fairs Cup in 1969). It hardly gained a mention on the national media, despite it being a very difficult competition to win. The best the BBC could manage was a radio commentary for the second half only of the away leg of the final against Ujpest Dosza.

I won't lie, when you sold Barton, Nolan and Enrique I thought you'd get 8th-10th. But now you are where you are deservedly and people can't accept it. The PL is so elitist it's unreal. We had the same problem just after Roman's investment and people refusing to accept we had usurped United and Arsenal. It's definitely the mentality of a generation of fans brought up on Sky TV Viewing.

    Can't agree with you there.

The media here have always shown more interest in United and Liverpool than any of our clubs, often mocking Arsenal and Chelsea on many occasion. It's part of the reason we have so many gloryhunting United and Liverpool fans here

Got to say I honestly think Tottenham and Arsenal have the better run ins and will take 3rd and 4th. We'll be 6th as I fully expect us to lose narrowly at Chelsea. Nice to see you say such nice things about us District.

I know you are keeping your feet in the ground but with all due respect I don't buy that.

    Your next 3 games are:

    Bolton (H)
    Stoke (H)
    Wigan (A)

We still have to play 3 of the bottom 4 at home, forget Liverpool they are a midtable side. Arsenal away and Newcastle at home are the only fixtures I see where nobody is a clear favourite and the sides are evenly matched.

Spurs still have 4 away games left and have only won one away game in 2012 (Watford away which they were extremely lucky to win, couldn't even beat Stevenage, a league one outfit).

Arsenal are bottlers at this time of year and still have to play City and us at home as well as go to Stoke. They're by no means assured to get top 4.

Yes and they are all games I would expect us to win, though shocks can happen, it's the last 3 games that worry me.
    Chelsea (A)
    Man City (H)
    Everton (A)

I personally think we can take Chelsea at Stamford bridge. Also if Arsenal beat City, I think it's over for them. Man Utd could have already won the title by the 2nd last game.

City are playing with no passion or drive when they still have it all to play for, and they're getting beat by the likes of West Brom, Sunderland and Swansea. We can take them.

Everton last game of the season could be a belter.

I don't think you should worry about us, our defenders won't be able to cope with Ba, Ben Arfa or Cisse and it's set up for you to just soak up the pressure and counter us.

As for City the title will be done and dusted by then and they will have just played their biggest game of the season against United, you couldn't be playing them at a better time.

As strange as it sounds, I reckon Everton away will be your hardest game <ok>

Agree, unless Arsenal lose one of their next two games (Wolves is unlikely so it'll have to be City) I think 4th is over for us, but the confidence Arsenal would get from being City would propel them onto 4th if not 3rd.

Let's hope for all our sakes City win on Sunday.

    Nice post, cheer man! <ok>

I'd love European footy next season but would still be immensely proud if we miss out in 6th position!

I think we're 2 or 3 signings away from top 4 and with a lot of luck and 3 or 4 signings we could be up there challenging for cups!

I've loved this season, I can only imagine its been massively frustrating for you Chelsea boys though...AVB just didn't seem to have the luck and some of his signings were far too erratic to oust the old guard which WILL need to be done sooner or later!

How would you feel about Di Mateo taking over full time? Is he good enough/big enough? Also would he have the pull to bring in the right type of players?

Think the title might be won when we play Man City, think Man Utd will win the title at Man City, I've seen some of Everton home results and wow. As for you guys I was fairly confident for the game at our place and you won 3-0.

Look mate, I wish you well, but you do seem to be lacking a little perspective there.

The Fairs Cup is now the Europa league, which is a major trophy and very difficult to win. And the final was against Ujpest Dosza. I don't quite get your point here?
