who do u think is the player of the season for us?

There's many players who are in for the player of the season, Giggs, Rooney,Valencia,Evans,Carrick, Ferdinand, De Gea ( before people say De Gea? he should be mentioned because he did save us many points this season). For me Rooney edges it just.

Rooney has been great for us this season. scored 28 goals for us so far, he's been great, i remember last year people were saying Rooney will never be back to his best again and things like that but he proved people wrong this season, when he was in that bad form last season when people including some of our fans were writing him off i always knew he would be back to his best and im glad he is.

Al thought i would not be surprised if Antonio Valencia wins the award because he's been great for us, he's a really dangerous player who gives defenders nightmares.

Rooney has scored goals but his general performances haven't been brilliant. But sometimes thats what you want- the end product at the end of the day is what matters and how it happens should be secondary IMO.

So far I think it's between Valencia, Evans or De Gea and of course my keeper bias will say De Gea! <laugh>

I can't say I agree wth you on your assessment of Rooney, I've seen it on another thread too.

Out of the whole squad, take Rooney out of the team and we'd be in big ****. Nowhere near top of the league. You say he hasn't been brilliant, that's open for debate, but he he has been consistenly excellent or very good. He makes us tick, simple as that and in sacrificing his super start top man status and performances he has given himself to the side as the go to man. He's as much a dogsbody as a superstar. Which, yes, at the end of the day IS what matters.

That said, Valencia is my player of the season as he has given us the injection if pace and impetus at the right time of the season.

Honourable mentions to our average goalkeeper De Gea, out average centre half Evans and out average centre midfielder Carrick.

It cant be de Gea. Yes he has been fantastic recently, but you cant just pretend the early mistakes never happened. Rooney and Valencia would be my picks. They're both players we look significantly worse without. At a push id say Rooney since he's played more.

Whole squad should be player of the year!

Valencia has been fantastic recently, but was out for a good chunk of the season, which is the only reason he isn't an automatic selection IMO.

Surprised to see De Gea being mentioned, as he's really only being mentioned for his last 2 months of fantastic form.

Evans has been our best defender bar none after the City Fiasco. Over the last few years we've prided ourselves on our defense and having one of the best, if not the best backlines in the world. Considering most of us had written Evans off as nothing more than a 5th choice CB at the start of the season, he's definitely worthy of the award.

Carrick has been our most consistent performer all year, and you can really notice when he's not playing, as we look extremely vulnerable without him in the middle of the pitch. If he were to win our PoTY, I would view it as him getting the recognition he thoroughly deserves, as he often goes unnoticed by everyone, as his omission from the National Team proves.

Last but not least, Wayne Rooney. He is the most important player at United. (except for maybe Vidic, but I don't think we'd be top of the league without Rooney). He's what makes us flow, and the offense tick. He's scored a large chunk of goals this season, and is one of the few players in the league that can win a game on his own.

Rooney will win, as he is the only one who will bring media attention, but I'd rather see it go to Evans. He was pretty much written off at the start of the year by most of us fans. (myself included) but he's been asked to fill Vidic's shoes and has done miles better than anyone could have expected. Long may his progress and form continue!

Whole squad should be in your PoTTy. With refereeing shoo-inz, how difficult can it be?

Taking every game we have played this season ( and I have been to many more than I have missed ) and if you had to take one player out of the team, the last player I would pick would be Rooney. He is the "cog" that makes everything tick in the United team. Even on a day when he is not having a particularly good game, he is up and down the pitch, helping the defence one minute and leading the attack the next. His work rate is incredible and he galvanises the team. Yes, Valencia has been great when he has played this season and especially coming back after such a bad injury and our tiny Spanish goalie has had his moments recently but for me, one player stands head and shoulders above everyone else and that is our boy Wayne. His contribution to the team is not always clear on edited highlights like "match of the day" but I'm sure any match going Red would see the effort he puts in week in week out, not to mention his goals. Did I mention Carrick, no I didn't and why not, because for me ,even though there has been an improvement recently, he is still not playing at the level he was when we bought him from Spurs !

Rooney is a player like any other that can be said has been putting in underwhelming performances. That's all im saying. His general play hasn't been as good as it has been. I've said it before on another thread and someone called me a plastic fan <laugh>, I don't think he even replied back after that? Even Gary Neville said Rooney had a crap game against Fulham, but he was the matchwinner. You can trawl all through my comments on here and I don't think I've ever called a United player **** or called for him to not play or to be sold etc etc, I will always see the positives in a player, hence my comments recently on Anderson.

He is the heartbeat of the team, more often than not, when he isn't playing well, we don't play well. But he is scoring vital goals, and you can't argue with the end product. I can lament Valencia for forgetting that he has two feet but it's wrong to do so when his right foot has produced the end product. But was Berbatov touted as player of the season last year despite being our top scorer? So that's the reason I wouldn't have Rooney as player of the season, goals alone don't make performances and vice versa but it works both ways, you can take on all the opposition but if you don't stick the ball away, what good are you!?

Although I'm probably being harsh on Rooney! I've just remembered how good he was in the first third of the season- which as I said on another thread- was playing with Nani. And I stand by my comment that Rooney as a creative hub plays better with Nani than with Valencia. And I want people to know what I mean by that before they lambast me. Out of Nani and Valencia, the former is the flair player (I'm not talking about what comes off, end product etc.) and I believe that Rooney likes having someone that can float about the pitch with the same level of creativity and "artistry" on the pitch. Which is why I think had we been playing with Nani against Fulham, we'd have won more than just 1-0 but by the same token, I don't think we would have won at Blackburn had Nani been playing rather than Valencia.

Why not De Gea? Every player has made mistakes, and if I recall correctly, the mistakes that De Gea made against Blackburn and Liverpool in the FA Cup probably caused us to lose those games. But even the matches he did make mistakes in, he's probably made a few saves that have earnt us points. Right at the beginning of the season, he let Long's shot through his hands, but he made a stunning save from a one on one (with Scharner I think) and clawed a cross/shot from under his crossbar.

If he has made mistakes that have really lead us to dropping points then please feel free to add them. But he has saved us a hell of a lot more points then he has lost them. And it's not as the other players mentioned have not made mistakes or missed chances.

I'm still struggling to choose between Evans and Valencia now though. Evans has developed into Beckenbaur it seems. He has had the confidence to play the ball out of defence, push forward with the ball and has imposed himself with some Vidic-esque headers and power, something that he had been critised for before.

I would pick one of the following:

    1) Valencia

    2) Evans

    3) De Gea
