My first home game, watched it from the Archers Rd end, always remember the mascots stayed on the sidelines and the ball was a brown lace up job. Sat 27 Aug 1961 Southampton 5 - 1 Portsmouth Second Division I believe they were relegated at the end of that season
I'm sad to admit that this will only be my second SCD, the first being the cup game in 2010. After the game we'd successfully made it past the back of the Freeborn garage and back to the car but on our way out there was a surge of people running towards us (still don't know if they were Saints or Pompey fans) being chased away from the garage by coppers on horses. Thankfully they ran past us to get round the corner to get back to the garage but it increased my heart rate a bit!!
Don't you remember dubbin...it was a waterproof treatment you had to put on leather football boots and ball before every game in the rain. Came before the white synthetic cover they have now.
Solent report Lambert was "banging in the goals" in training according to Nigel Adkins and is fit to face Pompey.
