I truly believe he would be a fantastic addition. Plenty of experience and, on his day, a premiership defender of the highest quality. I have faith that Nigel would get the best out of him, and a change of scenery could revitalise his career. Yes, I would love Fonte and Hooiveld to be our CB partnership if we gain promotion, but imagine having an in-form Matthew Upson in our team! Now that would be a good signing..!

We are going to get a lot of these rumours now. Saints must be looking for new players; Player A looking for a club; QED = Saints must want Player A. Generally, we are building a young team, but I'm sure Adkins knows we need some players with PL experience. And don't forget, Nigel is capable of resurrecting someone's career, especially in terms of fitness. The right attitude is what we are looking for.

Upson went down with WHU did he not ? CB is just about the most important position on the pitch, and is pivotal to success or failure. Hence I wouldn`t touch him, and always thought he was a bit of a blouse.

To me it is vital that IF we get promotion we dont buy old failed premiership players for their "experience"
Take a look at Norwich and Swansea, they recruited a limited number from the championship and even league 1
My view is the IF we are lucky enough to go up we buy the top championship players in the position that we need to strengthen - they will be reasonably priced, keen to move and have something to prove

We might buy one or two with experience who fit our remit...sometimes you have to be pragmatic. The long term plans are hopefully to bring through our academy players as well. The main aim if promoted is staying in the PL next year, then conquering the world after that.

This was my point. A cb and a cm with proven premier league experience to give the team a solid back bone for survival. Then build on that after. As said in an earlier post, Stoke did exactly the same thing. Yes Norwich and Swansea didnt go for experience this year and have done ok, but to be fair its been an exception to the norm, hence why everyone keeps talking about them. Id be suprised if one of them didnt go down next year anyway.

Would certainly offer LCB cover that we need, with Seaborne unlikely to be kept on

    Fonte/Martin for RCB
Hooiveld/Upson for LCB will suffice for me

Although i think Hoover and Fonte could probably do a job in the Premier League, Upson would be good cover at worst, and could almost certainly do a job for us.
In my opinion full backs is the area we definately need to strengthen, not sure if Richardson or Fox are good enough, and am sure their understudies arent.
If we go up we are going to need at least 6 new players in the summer.

He is far to old, slow, injury prone and inconsistant. He is past his prime, why do you think Stoke hardly play him?.
