The clue was in the sentence mate!

He's certainly part of the future though. Got to take you to task on the other three. Jones is 20 for God's sake, he will be a top class player. Young and Clevely have had a load of injuries. Young always contributes, how can he not be deemed to have improved?

Well, because he always does so. Being good is different to improving. He was basically the same standard at Villa last season.

I would suggest otherwise, his England performances since he became a United player have improved vastly for one.

Anyway, that's being picky. I could say his injuries have stalled any massive improvement and that will happen next year. Truth is, he has a big part to play in our immediate future.

I have to agree with Suarezlfc on Young. He is only doing what he did at Villa. OK so he has been injured but when the going gets tough Young goes missing. When the tide turns in your favour it's a different story.

I wish Downing was "only" doing what he did at Villa for us.

I think he's always done pretty well for England, pre and post United move. He was clearly too good for Villa, and the move to United has just unshackled him a bit because he's surrounded by better players and probably has more confidence to try stuff out knowing his team mates can cover should it not come off. I don't think his ability has improved much; it's been there a few seasons now. He still has a few quiet games, though.

Downing has done the opposite. He's just disappeared when put in a 'better' team. Rather than being willing to try new things, he looks scared to do anything. He was never a great dribbler, but he at least used to be able to beat a man or two down the wing.

I disagree with that assessment dave. Young has stepped up in a fair few big games when we've needed him - made a vital goal at West Brom on the opening day when we were headed for a draw, got the equaliser against Basel, and scored two great goals away at Spurs when we were under the cosh. The only times I remember him going missing were against City and away at Chelsea, and let's face it he was hardly the only player to go missing in those games...

He also has 12 goals plus assists in only 14 starts, and whilst some of that is due to the quality of the players he is playing alongside, it's still his best ever return in the PL.

He still has room for improvement, but he's definitely showing he has what it takes to succeed at Utd.

United have dramatically overperformed this year, whilst city have underperformed. I think we will see City go out and spend big again in the summer. If United do not spend, which I think may prove difficult with all the debt, then I see City dominating next year, and once they win there first, they could take some stopping.

Can Giggs and Scholes go on for another year? If not United will look very weak in midfield.

This could be the last year of United domination, it has to end at some point. Enjoy the ride, United fans, you never know when you will win an another?<ok>

I partly agree with you there. If City don't win the league they will keep spending until they do, and that's just bad news for everyone imo cos they'll just push wages up and force the smaller clubs down. I'd almost quite like them to win the league this year, that way they'd get it out of their system and could go into a nice long Chelsea esque slide down the table.

Also, our best teams of the last few decades have been build in response to competition from a genuinely good team - the 99-01 class was built in response to Arsenal under Wenger, and the 07-09 in response to Chelsea under Mourinho. I think if City actually did go all out and win the league quite comfortably then that would spur SAF on to build another truly great team that is among the best in Europe, rather than just one that is the best in England.

But I don't think City will take much stopping once they win their first. Not only would that spur Utd and other clubs to raise their game to try and complete with City, but it would also affect their spending. Like Abramovich did with Ancelotti, I think when City win the league their owners will take the view that the squad is now good enough, and so doesn't need much more investment. They still don't have the youth or the depth to succeed without a regular stream of top players being bought in imo, so if they did reduce their spending I think they'd drop back quite quickly.

The best thing for City as a club might be to go another three or four years without a title, so the owners are forced to keep spending and investing in infrastructure to create a more solid financial and sporting base. Then when the cut backs in spending come they won't hurt the club as much. Tho that obviously raises the question of how much of an impact FFP will have.

I thought I'd share with all of you my unbound joy at 'signing on' yesterday, just like a good Scouser. What a hideous experience that was. The only positive was I saw a woman working there who I had an affair with about 25 years ago. Still fit as fu.k. Brought back good memories of watersports and anal channeling <ok>
