Apologies Sir Eddie, list duly updated with Hughes and Euell. Its just that Hollands has never impressed me this season when i've seen him - in actual fact, in virtually every game i've to take a double look to see if he was still on the pitch ! - therefore, he is one of the obvious names for me - despite him being a regular. If he's anonymous in L1, imagine what he'll be like in Champs !
Sometimes not being noticed is a good thing, if he's used as the holding player does simple balls to calm it down, I'd keep him in, I like Stephens and Hollands together, if the ball is played to them and not hoofed to Kermit up front. I would like a real left winger and then a decent striker too, like we have BWP and Kermit then the rest I'm not too comfy with (Hayes is great on his day but we have very rarely seen it)
The thing with Hollands is, b'mouth fans said he starts a season amazing, tired, and was the dropped, but when recalled he found his form again. Does anyone recognise that scenario?
Well he's certainly not the buccaneering midfielder who got into the box so effectively earlier on in the season.
I've heard Magnus Okuonghae from Colchester will be signing for us in the summer. He is also out of contract at Colchester at the end of this season, so will be a nice bit of business for us on the free. Also heard in the North Lower a couple of games back that IF we go up, there is a deal in place for O2 to become our shirt sponsor next season with Nike the kit manufacturer. Have heard this elsewhere but wouldn't say it was from anyone concrete though.
I agree with most of whats been said in terms of possible signings and outgoings but does anyone see potiential signings from the teams possibly being relegated from the champ? Are their any players good enough for us from the likes of Coventry, Doncaster, Pompey or Bristol City? I think we should look at - Gary McSheffrey (coventry) Jason Pearce (Pompey) David Norris (pompey) Albert Adomah (Bristol City) Erik Huseklepp (pompey) if he doesn't stay at Birmingham on loan.
Thats a very good point Belv, i'm a big fan of Pearce (and so are the Pompey fans i work with) despite his huge rickett last saturday. Adomah was also a handful whenever i've watched him on tv.
Oki, Oki, Oki - Oi, Oi, Oi! Thought I'd start the songs off early... As far as the sponsorship question is concerned, speaking from a lifetime in Marketing, if I were the KRBS marketing manager, I'd get a diamond cutter for the rest of my life every time I thought about what taking an educated gamble on sponsoring Charlton Athletic had done for my organisation and career this season. The coverage has been colossal for a relatively modest initial outlay - we've been front and centre since hitting the top of the table last September. However, off the field, KRBS is now restructuring and forming new alliances and partnerships and maybe the agenda has changed. Personally, I'd prefer the sponsor not to be an organisation that promotes gambling, but pretty much all-comers are welcome to stick their name on the front of our shirt provided they ante-up, and continue to support us if times get tough. O2 would be a serious 24 carat sponsor and I'd be delighted if they chose us.
It is I who should apologise for telling you to get a grip after writing "there is nil chance of Hughes leaving" when I meant "there is nil chance of Holland leaving". And to think I was once (briefly) a proof-reader! Teach me not to post late at night when I really ought to be in bed. This board only allows a short time to edit our own posts. Other (non-football) boards where I troll regularly allow much more time. Why is that? I get very prickly at any attacks on Holland. I was expecting him to be my Player of the Season though I cannot, in all fairness, still claim that. Most of us realised that Jackson had been under-rated once he was out injured. I think the same of Holland and so does CP which is why he has been scared to leave him out for a well-deserved rest. Of course, being presented with triplets doesn't help and knocked him back when he was on top form. Maybe we should castrate all our players during the close season? We cannot afford that sort of thing to happen again.
On the way home tonight I heard on Talksport that Boyd (at Peterborough) is refusing a new contract, didn't he start with us and at 27 he is in his prime.
I know he doesn't have the most prolific goalscoring record - but I like that Mathieu Manset from Reading. He's on loan to a team in Asia I believe (strange move), so could well be available.
Doc 100% as he is out of contract. I think you would need to stay in League One to keep Hayes. I'd personally like to keep him, but you'd understand his stance should he not be in the match day squad.
