The prices of workers fan mentions aren't too bad, the prices of things like tiling etc seems cheap but i've seen Polish people offer to clean for £8 a day so y'know <laugh>

Thing is there is a lot of work goes in to saving money

For example I am 'project managing' a job for a relative. Basically they want a new kitchen doing and money is tight for them

So I will do most of the labouring, taking out, taking of plaster etc, putting together the units and what not

Then when all is prepared the 'professionals' will do the work.

so instead of paying a guy say £100 a day for 4 days work totalling £400. I will do 3 days worth and pay someone a £100 for one days

If they werent a realtive I would have charged them say £250. Saving them £150 and making £150 myself

    everyones a winner

Its like anything else these days TBH

A firend of mine is afghani and his cousin was an asylum seeker. He was a trained mechanic.
Now I have seen first hand how 'good' some of the mechanics abroad can be and this guy is excellent. To exaggerate it slightly he could tell you what was wrong before it went wrong

Yet this guy couldnt find work. Some taxi firm payed him backhanders to fix their cars. This was frowned on by some people
I kid you not he was that good he worked for a VW subsiduary, again paid backhanders as legally he couldnt work

I wouldnt think twice about taking my cars to him. He is that good, that cheap and appreciates the money

Yeah been there. Especially when I was starting out

But there are genuine guys out there, the fella I refer to has been doing stuff for my friends and family for a while now and as yet zero complaints

In fact when I had my extension built for my lad, I used a 'proper' firm as some of the money was via grants from disability. I had nothing but problems
Tiles falling off, paint peeling etc

Thing is when you are in the trade or there abouts there are gnerally favours you do for each other

The guy who does my central heating also works for British Gas. Now some peopel will ring BG to fit a cooker. He will go and the bill is £120 ish
Ask him as a 'foreigner' and its £60. For me its probably nothing if its just fitting it

    Asylum seeker? yes

couldnt legally work work? yes because he was asylum seeker (think he can now)

    Mechanic? no.

good at his job? no. but probably helps coming from a country where a computer diagnostic isnt the only way to find and fix a problem with your car

I had some work done on my car a while back. £12 for the part. £20 odd for the labour took literally 10 minutes. £140 for the computer to tell them what was wrong.
I had already told them what the problem was. Its a switch by the accelerator on VW's that goes and the brake lights stop working. Told them to fook off. Tried to say they would take me to court. told them to do it. nothing as yet
