    From the sun on Sunday....

NEWCASTLE have offered Demba Ba a £50,000-a-week, four-year contract to prevent him leaving this summer.

The 16-goal striker is on the radar of the Premier League's big boys and has a £7million buyout clause in his current deal — of which he would pocket £2.5m in a move.

But the Toon want to tear up the three-year contract he signed last summer after the Senegalese moved from relegated West Ham.

Newcastle are even prepared to DOUBLE the money Ba would get if he leaves — with a £5m signing-on fee spread over the term of his new deal.

The offer also includes a substantial pay rise on his current £35,000 a week.

Yet despite his public shows of affection to Newcastle and their supporters in recent weeks, Ba is in no rush to sign.

That is despite a warning from manager Alan Pardew that if he does leave in the summer it will damage his reputation.

Ba, 26, is due to meet with his own representatives in the next seven days to discuss his options before making a decision.

    It's the Sun...

Also I think the release clause is bollocks, how would anyone know about it if it was true?

Im sure even pardew has admitted it was in place. seems odd considering our recent business decisions mind.

Didn't know Pardew had admitted it, but I did know that there was a deafening silence from the club on the matter when we could have put the whole thing to bed in five seconds by denying it.

I believe Pardew simply chose to not comment on the release clause. I seem to remember him giving the line "He's a Newcastle player, he has been brilliant for us and that's all I want to say, really." Of course that led many to believe that because he didn't deny it, then its more than likely there is a clause. Who knows. I hope he stays but I will understand if he gets a Man U/Chelsea/Man C/Arsenal type option. That's difficult to knock back.

The clause is there as Ba's 'advisors' made it known to all and sundry just after the Man U game at the start of the Jan window. However, he had no intention of leaving then, whether he does this summer will depend on him.

50p/w plus 5mil signing on fee so essentially 75p/w seems very decent for a lad whose career could just end suddenly due to his degenerating knee.

Don't think he'll ever be desperate enough to play for 50p a week.

Hope Demba signs up and we get to see him and Cisse get a hat full of goals next season.

If Ba stays I firmliy believe that he and Cisse will be class together. I also recko Cisse will out score Ba. To think he hasn't even settled yet either. I see Ba as the more shearer-esk type player, all about power, scores from anywhere muscling centre halfs about. Cisse is crafty, instinctive finishing. They could be amazing together.

It'll be good if we can get all the first team signed up to new contracts. Keep the team together as long as possible.
