Some may say -with a little justification I suppose, that I may be getting a shade optimistic here, but after Tuesday night's performance I really do think that the great escape is most definitely on. We go to Coventry on a bit of a high and a spring in our step. The players must be feeling the same. No one else has had to say goodbye and a couple of young hopefuls have joined us from Citeh. There is time for a little relief from the constant 'slow death' pangs we've all been going through lately and room for a little hope that 5 points, well 4 with our goal difference and an interesting run in for the other 4 teams in jeopardy down at the wrong end, may just yet deliver what we've all been praying for.
This is what our fans are especially good at. At the Amex recently you could feel a resignation, in what was a relatively flat atmosphere for a Pompey away following that we'd had it. Even Pompey fans need a lift from their players now and again and how Tuesday night delivered. Suddenly we look dangerous again with improving performances from Allan and Maquire with Etuhu showing what he's capable of.
I am of the opinion that barring disasters, this squad can do the business and keep us in the Championship. How good would that be after all that's been thrown at us again?

    How good???
Bloody amazing is what it would be.
Wish I could be there to lend my voice and get behind the boys, but I know you guys have the situation in hand.
Great escapes is nothing new for Pompey, and maybe, just maybe we can pull it off.
But I will save my optimism till after the next couple of games.

As a bristol city fan i hope you dont pull though his unless you drag forrest or millwall into the 3rd position, and my honest opinion is the bottom 3 will stay as it is <ok> good luck though

    Hi FFD
Indeed....will be ex-pat for the foreseeable future....and if I can really make it work out here....then it will be for good.
Will defo need to get Sky Sports though....feel so out of touch!
Made it back for a few games this season though.

One win and out the wood work you pop fratandfunky. :emoticon-0111-blush
Haven't seen you over on the Pride of the South board for a while, funny how the plenty to say mob disappear when Pompeys troubles become bigger and our progress gets a little better.
Trouble is it leaves all the good genuine no axe to grind fans like PL PM dev mike etc to carry on regardless and it becomes impossible to take keyboard revenge on them from all the rubbish we had from the likes of Sb3, you etc
So hurry back and take it on the chin like a man.:emoticon-0105-wink:

I agree with Funkdaddy. a win this afternoon and I think Pompey could be well on the way to safety. The three worse teams in the Championship are Dnncaster, Coventry and Bristol and PFC only find themselves in this position for factrs that have little to do with the performance of the team on the pitch. It would be one of the greatest "escapes" if you do survive but I can't see your rivals picking up many points so everything is in your hands. Appleton have proven himself to be an admirable manager and although I thought you looked doomed even as recently as last week, the Birmingham result has demonstrated the your squad is good enough to rip apart one of this leagues better teams. for me, if Appleton saves Pompey from the drop, his ahcievement will be on a par with what Adkins has achieved at Southampton in it's own respect. The FL wanted to see Pompey relegated and he has effectively refused to roll over and be compliant. It certainly makes the derby match more interesting and definately not the ush-over that most of us Saints fans had initially predicted.

    Cheers

If you all give up before the end of the season, my epic smugness will have a hollow ring to it.

What happened here? A time loop would be my guess. The last sentence is simply too much.

Looking at the table, it is still very much possible for Portsmouth to avoid the drop. Watching yesterday's game against Doncaster though and particularly for moments in the first half, I couldn't understand what they were doing in the relegation zone. They only folded when we went 2-0 up. I don't think that PFC's match against them will be a pushover.

Ian, Doncaster are packed with very experienced players and in 1 v 1 situations were evenly matched or in some cases better than the Saints player they were facing, however they were not a team.

Hence, in my opinion their lowly position in the rankings.

Mathematically Pompey can escape the drop, personally I hope they don't, I am looking forward to them taking part in the much ridiculed and sneered at (by them) Johnstones Paint Trophy.
