Any player who has played this century, what would your starting 11 be? I'll do mine later. Interesting to see if any of the current squad make it.

Sess on the left wing maybe, Summerbee or Larsson on the right. When did Summerbee finish?

This for me. Think Johnson was still there as I'm sure he played at the SoL which opened in (I think) 1999:

    Sorensen
    McBardo Gray
    Catts O'Shea Ball
    Johnson Sess Summerbee
    Quinn Phillips

Nah SOL was more like 1997 wasn't it?

Thought about Quinny but Bent's goals are hard to leave out. Mickey Gray is a good shout, when did he leave?

Ball was definitely pre 2000. Wasn't he?! Plus he surely has been eclipsed since then by the likes of Brown, Mensah, Bould, even Turner?

Good work here Parker. I'd move Schwarz into middle and take Rae out. Still not sure Summerbee didn't leave around 99. I think Gordon is the best too but he has spent so much time out i thought tommy might be a better option. Similar to mine though.

We've had some very good players since 2000, thought I'd do 2000 as most people will have seen everyone play.

    Keeper, for me Sorrenson.

Rb - Chris Makin, just thought he was always rock solid.

Cb - Steve Bould, quite simply the best centre half I've ever seen play for Sunderland.

Cb - wes brown, think he has been excellent this year.

Lb - Mickey Gray. He was a good defender, got forward well and a good crosser.

Rw - sess' just love his variation.

Cm - don Hutchinson - creative midfielder, killer through ball and scored goals

Cm - cartermole if he maintains current form.

Lw - Schwartz, used to love him!

I would have to go Quinn and Phillips the partnership was brilliant! Simples. Quinn made so many goals for Phillips.

I think given more time Mcclean could make it. Bent unlucky not to be in.

For all bents goals, the Quinn/SKP partnership is the best I've ever seen in my time and would easily be my choice. Also, the summerbee/Johnson wing play and forwards supply line is the best combination down the flanks I've ever seen. They are shoe in's imo and the best attacking unit (4 players) in my time watching the lads by a country mile. Poetic licence taken if they were just around the 2000 year mark.

Bally would always be in one of my teams and obviously as captain (my all time favourite player as well) and in midfield. In my opinion he is 10 times the player, the influence and the captain of any other in the last 30 years. He is Mr Sunderland to me. I'd have put Benno in that mould as well if he had qualified in the time stated.

Schwartz alongside him was simply a top, top class ball player and controlled the game. Bardsley/Makin right back (both fantastic and hard one to call); Mickey Gray left back is the best attacking full back we've had in that time; Mensah and Evans in central defense would be formidable. Keeper would be Tommy.

That's a team that would win more than they lost imo. Top 6 nee bother. Top 4 maybe. Injury free, who knows?

For me I will always have doubts about Allan Johnston in any X1 selection because as good as he was he 97/98 98/99 he looked off before he could really prove himself in the Premier league. Due to this I can only think back to Carlos Edwards, scared the pap out of championship full back, beat them with ease and scored some screamers. Edwards couldnt cut it the prem though. Although I rate Magic much higher and think he would have done very well that first season back in the prem that fact he he didnt and he nicked off and his career went downhill fast.
