The offish has it that our team will be wearing t shirts with 'messages of support' for Muamba during the warm up tonight. Honestly this is beginning to give me the creeps. Firmly with Frank on this and it's media driven causes. Plenty of sympathy for him as an individual, and it is shocking to see someone effectively die on live TV, but all sense of proportion lost in service of the 'story'.
Tommy Cooper died on live TV. He was better known than Fabrice Muamba, yet we did not have all this 'kerfuffle' back then. Perhaps we were made of sterner stuff in those days.
I was watching that mate. Everyone thought it was part of the routine to start with!! You're right though....this Muamba stuff has gone too far now!! He's NOT dead!
What about EVERY team wearing T shirts to show support for ALL those who have died for their respective countries EVERY week!! THAT would be the right thing to do, but nonetheless ridiculous!
Or even better wearing t-shirts for things that we might be able to do something about with collective action/ donations etc- Syria, East and West Africa, health programmes, child poverty.....we are hardly short of causes. Sorry, stupidme, politics should be kept out of sport. Smirk.
I agree it has gone slightly over the top. I can see why Bolton fans, or other professional footballers (like the Sunderland team)might be very saddened by the news. I feel terrible for Muamba, he was one of the players which I preferred the most. There were a few players who played against/with him and you can see how there is a need to do something. Apart from that, I can't really see why other club's fans would get engrossed in the fact that Muamba has collasped. Ok, you can be saddened by the news, which is fair enough. But I am hating this constant update of people's opinions and if we are doing enough screening and other, slightly related stuff. Why drag it on and make it worse? I can't see it from your p.o.v, but I can tell that some people are over the top.
This is an excellent piece by Richard Littlejohn which gets the balance just right... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/a...-collapsed-Pray-4-Bolton-star-fake-tears.html
