I have listed the various equations which I think are correct for the different scenarios that could occur example 1 the simple one Top 4 qualify for champions league, 5th Europa League, Carling Cup winners Europa League, FA Cup winners Europa League example 2 nearly as simple Chelsea win Champions league and finish outside top 4, Chelsea go into Champions League top 3 in league go into Champions League, 4th place Europa League, Carling Cup Winners Europa League, FA Cup Winners Europa League example 3 still quite simple Chelsea win Champions League and finish in top 4, 5th place Europa League, Carling Cup Winners Europa League, FA Cup Winners Europa League example 4 now starts to get complicated If Liverpool win both cups and play a team in the top 4 in the final and Chelsea dont win the Champions League 5th place will go into Europa League, 6th place Europa League, 7th place Europa League example 5 Similarly If Liverpool win both cups and by some magical achievement made the top 4 and played another top 4 club in the final and Chelsea didnt win the Champions League, 5th placed would go into the Europa League along with the teams finishing 6th and 7th example 6 If Liverpool win both cups beating a team who has already qualified for Europe and finish 5th in the league 6th and 7th would qualify for Europa League example 7 If Tottenham or Chelsea beat Liverpool in the final and have qualified for Europe by being 5th or better in the league 6th placed would qualify for Europa League example 8 If Tottenham or Chelsea beat Liverpool and have finished 5th and Liverpool finish 6th then 7th place in league would qualify for Europa League example 9 If Bolton were to get through to the final to meet Sunderland or Everton the winners would qualify for Europe example 10 If Everton or Sunderland met Chelsea or Tottenham who had already qualified for the Champions League or finished 5th either of these teams would qualify for Europe even if they lost Lots of scenarios all very complcated but yes Syd we could still get into Europe by reaching the cup final but not winning and for that matter by finishing 7th. The easiest way to get there is to win the effing cup which would see us qualify by right thus eliminating one of Tottenham Arsenal Chelsea and Newcastle from qualifying for Europe. Other than that we just keep on winning in the league, finish seventh and see what scenarios pan out.
