1887 - Have you done any more composing of your "song for Oxford"????? Anyone else got anything they'd like to contribute?
It's for a reason though. Most fans don't want to join in with songs about how 'we hate colu/slough' and many others that are sung which are often abusive in nature and a bit moronic really. Hence why the atmosphere is always best when there are positive, encouraging songs such as 'chairboys' and 'come on Wycombe', which gets the Woodlands stand involved (the woodlands stand being by far the best in the ground for atmosphere). I asked on the gasroom recently whether we have a club anthem, such as one similar to 'delilah' at Stoke, 'goodnight Irene' at Bristol Rovers and apparently we do have one called 'the old Bucks Boys', or something like that. I've never actually heard it but it would provide some decent originality. Acoustics, which has been mentioned on here recently, doesn't have to be an issue if the songs get the majority going. It would immidiately boost atmosphere. All IMO.
JSwwfc, I appreciate your point of view, but in my opinion a bit of jibing at the opposition adds to the atmosphere. The language doesn't particularly bother me and the chants can sometimes add a certain something to the game. I'm not going to get into the swearing at football debate with you, but rightly or wrongly it is a part of football at all levels
It doesn't particularly bother me either - it's part and parcel of football and always will be. Also to be fair I think this is strictly a home atmosphere debate and away we are usually very good. I just think that if we look at it this way: Many of our regulars are families/older fans. (It is interesting actually that we don't seem to have that many fans in the 25-40 age group. I do think the club should be looking to attract more supporters of this demographic.) At home, our support is usually drowned out and there is very little banter with away fans. I think it could be a lot better if we stuck to the supportive songs and added our own club anthem, if it does indeed exist. The atmosphere would be far better. As I've said I haven't heard 'old bucks boys' myself but it does sound very much in the 'delilah'/'goodnight irene' mould, and could be one entirely unique to our club. Just straying slightly off topic - there was a debate on here fairly recently about relocation of away fans, and it was suggested that they could be relocated to the current family stand. Now ignoring issues with current family stand STH, and potential lost revenue for the club, I think that would make for a good atmosphere and banter with the home terrace although for the reasons I've described and also the potential for trouble I doubt it would ever happen. What do others think of that idea?
I would actually add that the home atmosphere has not been helped by the banning of the drummer this season although I don't know the circumstances and how that decision was reached.
JS - As Requested the lyrics to Old Bucks Boys, Btw I'm in your 25-40 Demographic! We are the old Bucks Boys, We make a hell of a noise, We'll mind our manner, Just give us a tanner, We are the old Bucks Boys.. IMO - A load of old Cod!http://www.not606.com/images/smilies/emoticon-0103-cool.gif We try to get the Slow version of when the Blues go marching in going, which everyone can join in with, just like the Tottenham Version except only about 20 people do it!!!! The reason Stoke sing delilah' at Stoke is that some drunk bloke started singing it at a game in the 70's and it caught on one of those off the cuff things. A bit like Twist and Shout at AP - if Blue Solider remembers the words 'goodnight Irene' sung at by Brizzle is an old Sea Shanty off the docks down there. Another good anthem is End of Road by Birmingham and Anfield Road by the Scousers Both these songs where written and kept being repeated until the caught on. Pretty Much like my - Rig of Fire song - de de de da der Light and Dark Blue Army. Me, slasher and rocky had been singing it on and off for a while and it just caught on at Bradford away this year. Slasher - Due to the nature of songs not coming across well on t' tinternet. I will say it nearly there needs tweaking. So in conclusion we still need an anthem? Any budding song writers out there? BlueSoilder!! Not you!! Slasher/Rock/Blue Solider what to reckon? Slowly at first: Take Meee Home Take me Hooommmee, To a Plllaaccceeee III Beeeeeeeloooongg! Adams Park Home of Wycombe! Take Me Home! Take Meee Home Take me Hooommmee, To a Plllaaccceeee III Beeeeeeeloooongg! Adams Park Home of Wycombe! Take Me Home! (Clap Clap) Take Me Home Take Me Home To A Place I Belong Adams Park Home of Wycombe Take me Home!!
JS - The Drummer was banned for something that happening in Wycombe Town Centre and as the Police where not involved he technically cannot be banned, but they must have other reasons one being his boyband looks and the other his out spoken opinion about a Mr Hayes
Also it doesn't help that a majority of the fans that do sing have no rhythm and so every song gets speeded up and people join in the clapping bits but not the words!! Also there is hardly ever a second verse sung to any songs. As for hating Slough - Most people in Wycombe do its not a football thing! As for 'C$L U'! - Always **** on a Tesco Carrier Bag!
what annoys me are the old farts on the gas room slagging off our own fans for singing the same old songs then when we come up with new ones they still moan,we cant win whatever we do.i dont get it ,they dont sing so they should shut their mouths and stop being internet hard men when in fact they are a bunch of pussys who would run a mile if anyone confronted them, they are just a bunch of pricks who dont do anything but moan.as slasher blue soldier 1887 the pirate and anyone in the vicinity of us at home games know if it wasnt for us there would be no atmosphere in the valley end.its about time those old farts on the gas room grew some balls and started supporting our team like we do ..RANT OVER
1887 take me home sounds good to me but as we all know it will be up to the left side to get it going and keep it going
if you think about it light and dark blue army took a while to catch on then at bradford away it took off ,at least we come up with new songs which is more than the moaners do
1887 - Thanks for that, and I appreciate your efforts on matchdays too. I like 'take me home' because it sounds original, much like 'Old Bucks Boys'. Shame about the drummer - I do know a couple of people who knew him but have now gone to uni and they have confirmed the united front of Hayes and Stanford - nasty people in charge at our club these days. Rocky - I can understand your frustration, but is an attitude like that really going to help things? I do know there is the odd anonymous or regular poster on the gasroom who takes liberties, but in reality many gasroom posters are extremely knowledgeable, insightful, and life long fans of the club. With every internet messageboard there is the opportunity to fans to adopt a certain persona and wind people up, but in the majority of cases that isn't so. The gasroom is portrayed on here as some sort of cut-throat, abusive hell when it is far from that - it helped to spawn the Black and White appeal for instance. Can't we all just get along, most importantly on the terraces where the team needs our support the most?
Im tone death The makority of chants at the oxford game and any game for that matter should be simple ones such as chairboys because atleast everyone can join and keep it going for a long time, tbh any noise coming from our part of the oxford stadium is better than nothing!!!
js thanks for your reply mate, this is why i like this site ,we all have opinions and some are different to others but we all get along, sometimes we agree to disagree and thats fine i respect every poster on here but i cant say that about the gas room and thats why i rarely go on there.i have posted on the gas room several times and the response has been rammed back at me by so called wycombe fans .i looked on there on the weekend and there were a lot of so called fans who i would class as wums bitching at each other like little school kids in a playground and thats not my scene ,at least on here we all get along and have some great banter and long may that continue, but i can honestly say the gas room is not for me its full of wums and backstabbers.like i said earlier i respect your views and look forward to our debates in the future .......cheers mate
What about the Status Quo song The Wanderer as our anthem? I'm sure we used to play it at games but got banned over copyright issues, but that won't stop it being sung on the terrace. I'm with Rocky on the Gas Room. I know there's some good knowledgable people on there, but it's a pain sifting through all the WUMS and kids to read what they have to say and have any kind of reasoned debate like on here.
Does anyone remember a tune by KC and The Sunshine Band called Give It Up?? Could easily change the words to Wycombe's going up, going up, Wycombe's going up.........
Personally, i like the old Celtic song. I'm sure this used to get sung at Wycombe some years back. It's pretty catchy and easy to learn. What do u think? It's a grand old team to play for, It's a grand old team to support, And if you know your history, It's enough to make your heart go Whooah, We don't care what the Col U say What the [f*ck] do we care, Because we only know that there's going to be a show, When the Wycombe boys are there.
