Do you remember those heady days at the beginning of the season when we outplayed a lot of teams and played with joi de vivre? We're now at the sharp end of the season where you have to knuckle down and grind out results...we're showing we can do that as well.
Who's joi de vivre, some french bloke we've signed or what! If he's that good has he fallen from grace through envy or scandal. We should be told.
West Ham are in danger of falling away from Saints and Reading if they are not careful. They fail to beat Boro at home (a real possibility) and then a trip to Burnley - Burnley are more than capable of getting points there. Then it's their game in hand v Posh - I would expect them to win that and then the 6 pointer v Reading. I can honestly see West Ham failing to go up this season.
How is Sharp only a 6?! Looked very lively up front, set up rickie for the pen. Held the ball up very well and wasted many valuable seconds
With a note on chappers he was on twitter at 2-3 in the morning because he couldn't sleep cos of the nightclub near by, not sure if that is an excuse though. Also great starting point referring to the mk dons game it was first thing that came to my mind. Coyr.
Hi guys, Went to the game today and what with it being an away game I thought I'd post up my opinions and let others who were there or listened discuss and debate it! I also wrote a match report on the game for a football site, so when that has been published I'll pop the link at the bottom of this. So... Davis - 7 - Had a lot of 'sweeping' to do against a fast-breaking counter-attacking side. Made a couple of key saves when needed. Calm and confident. Richardson - 6 - Exposed by Bouazza's pace at times but dealt well with him in all honesty, was often our last line of defence in the first half. Didn't get his usual deliveries into the box going either. Fonte - 7 - Own goal unfair on him, had a good game. Jos' heading was not what it usually was and Jose made up for it with good covering. Hooiveld - 7 - Slow start, caught out a couple of times but gave it his all. Wears his heart on his sleeve and was vital in the 2nd half. Fox - 7 - Love his passion. Really helped get the crowd going when he was coming over to take a corner late on and punched the air, pulled his shirt and slapped the crest. Linked up well with Lallana and Schneiderlin, solid again and put in some dangerous set-pieces. Was caught out on a few occasions though. Chaplow - 5 - Struggled to get into the game. Still looks off the pace, some dodgy touches but as always Chaplow chased everything. Hammond - 5 - Often slack in possession, a couple of really dodgy backwards headers and passes today. Schneiderlin - 9 - MOTM for me. He was breaking up play, nicking the ball away, playing one-two's, playing his way out of tight spaces and making great runs. He has been brilliantly influential recently and when the going got tough, Morgan got the midfield going. Lallana - 7 - Not his greatest game, but his direct running caused havoc for the Millwall full-backs and pulled open space time and time again for Fox and Schneiderlin in the first half. Poor in the second half. Final ball into the box was lacking today. Do Prado - 7 - Very poor in the first half. When he went into central midfield in the 2nd half he really stepped up to the plate. Got stuck in, throwing his body in the way, chasing and playing good stuff with Schneiderlin to create breaks for Saints. Lambert - 9 - Some absolutely sublime touches and flicks. His first touch is also top notch. Another hat-trick for Rickie, who did well to control himself as it was quite clear he was extremely irate by some of the refereeing decisions. (well, before the last 10 minutes!!!) Subs: De Ridder - 7 - His direct running and pace caused Smith untold problems. He was never really challenged by Chaplow but De Ridder opened up space for Richardson as well as supporting the strikers with some good balls into the final third. Never afraid to get stuck in and lend himself to the cause. Sharp - 7 - Some good movement and the ball intended for Lambert which brought about the first penalty was intelligent. Sharp looks 'sharper' so to speak, and he is certainly making it hard for Adkins to leave him out. Would've had a goal but for a great last-ditch block. Cork - Not really on the pitch long enough, but did well enough to run the ball away from our goal and clear the danger in the closing stages. Adkins - 9 - Got it right again today, took a gamble and it worked. Although the game was not as he would've liked, he played the conditions. Thoughts? Sorry.
I wouldnt give any saints palyer any more than 6 even RL. Awful today and absolutely amazed we won it still in shock! Everyone has a go at guly but today our worst players were hammond (why not cork) and chaplow. In defence we looked shambolic richardson hardly made a decent pass and llanna was non existant lets hope things change cos theres still a long way to go yet!
Yes yes yes!!!!! I've been screaming at Saints for years to do this. The season we went down from the Premier league we blew do many points because we refused to kill the game and run down the clock in the opponents corner flag region. One thing that springs to my recently is I was pissed off big time when Chaplow shot against Leeds in the dying moments, very selfish not to take it to the corner imo just like many of our players that season we relegated from the PL
Please sign out and never come back if you wouldn't give Lambert more than 6 today. Some people that post here are beyond idiotic at times.
The main reason I was so impressed is because Sharp is someone who has a lot to prove. He's been struggling to get in the side so I'm sure most other players in his situation would have their eyes light up imagining the run in the team a goal would bring - instead, Sharp opted to go the safest way to waste time rather than add his name to the scoresheet. Very selfless.
Already a thread on ratings/thoughts: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/131345-Back-from-the-game-thoughts-ratings
Interesting that your overall ratings are higher than some posted earlier....perhaps because not written immediately after game. For those who don't go to the game these ratings are important although it's only the score that really matters. What would be the overall judgement of the team performance? Did we play badly and then put them under pressure or was it a decent performance against a team playing well?
As I already said, I did not see it. I got in and set up to post it when I got in, I then got distracted and eventually came back to it. By the time I'd published it I realised, and tagged the bit on the bottom to apologise Is there such need for all these petty jibes for certain members of the forum? If the mods want to move it into the others that is absolutely fine. It's tools like you who jump all over people for no reason that stop some people signing up and posting. Learn to accept people make mistakes and be a bit more tolerant. I already said I realised I had made a mistake.
He was a mate of Morgan's who used to play for Nancy I think and was with us on trial for a few weeks. He wasn't very fast in fact he moved at a snails pace and when he jumped to head the bail he ended up about two feet further forward. Something to do with his long bow legs. I think he drove a fast car because he was always talking about " ees car go!" he seemed not to know the word for fast. I think he had a Welsh girl friend called Gronwee. She must have been quite tasty as he would lick his lips at the very mention of her name.
