Anyone else battered, bruised and broke going into the final day, or is it just me Haven't a clue about the Triumph I keep changing my mind so might just sit it out. The County is a pinstickers race so I'll sit it out too though suspicion is that Citzenship could make up for Harrington's disappointing festival to date. Backed Boston Bob last week 9-2 but I'm not as confident as I was then- not sure the form is that strong and Mullins is having as many run bad as good with a few PUs in the formbook. Onto the Gold Cup. Has to be Long Run's race hasn't it? He'll surely stay on that bit better than the great horse though it's been folly (and expensive) to oppose him this year. Like Ruby said about the legendary Big Bucks yesterday 'It's foolish to doubt him' so possibly we might just hear this again- would be fairytale stuff and frankly Henderson has won enough and used up all his luck by now hasn't he?? No bet on this one yet. If Kauto was 5s or better would probably try a sentimental bet on him as he's surely the best horse we'll have the privelege to witness for many, many years. There wouldn't be a single dry eye in the house if he does it again. Oddy by the way I can't believe you've highjacked the Gold Cup day thread- naughty, naughty boy- Zenyatta had this one called since Christmas!!
Morning all Sorry about that one last night, can't get over it, 5/1 in to 13/8 and comes stone last........fishy!! Anyway, today 1.30 Grumeti/Ut De Sivola 2.05 Snap Tie/Ted Spread 2.40 Brindisi Breeze 3.20 Well, heart says yes, head says no, so I have backed Kauto and also Burton Port e/w 4.00 Chapoturgen 4.40 Bourne/Grandads Horse 5.15 De Boitron All e/w except KS Good luck
Good morning gents... And so to the last day, but what a day... I suppose all the talk is of the big duel of the King Kauto and Long Run but we have some other good races to watch also... Ive not ben very adventurous in my picks today but as most of the favs went in yesterday that might have swayed me a tad... 1.30 - Pearl Swan 2.05 - Raya Star 2.40 - Boston Bob 3.20 - Long Run 4.00 - Salsify and Merchant Royal 4.50 - Bourne 5.15 - Eradicate and Renard So good luck to all on this the final day of Cheltenham...
Another good day for me yesterday thanks to Sir Des Champs. Can't be having Kauto Star today and Long Run looks vulnerable. The one for me is the Pricewise fancy Synchronised. Also like Balder Succes in the Truimph. So that will be it for me today.
Ive got, 1:30 - Pearl Swan I think was 6/1 4:40 - Open Hearted (e/w) 14/1 thats all im doing as im still recovering. (Outstanding first day... Shocking second day!)
I've not had a bad Cheltenham so far only placing a massive £1 straight win or 50p each on most races, whatever happens today I am already £13 up!! but I've gambled for a bit of fun, just love the end of the races so exciting, speaking of which in the Gold Cup who are you going for I've decided to skip Long Run and Kauto Star and go for an "outsider" I've seen Weird Al tipped today at 14/1 (http://tips.betting-directory.com/) might go for that, unless someone here can talk me into another one!
I think Willie Mullins said he thought Boston Bob would be better on good ground. Its easy to say he preferred soft ground when he outstayed Make Your Mark etc giving them 10lb over 2m 5f, but it was his stamina that one him the day, not the soft ground. Step up to 3m will really suit. 1.30: SHADOW CATCHER 16/1 A.P - Was discussing him last week when I'd missed the boat for prices in the 20s on Betfair. Really strong traveller, ground will really suit, and Gordon Elliot has been aiming at this for some time. Can he stay up the hill? If he was to win I'd have definitely beaten the bookies for the week! BALDER SUCCES 8/1 Think this looks a very silky smooth horse and I think he'd have run well in a Supreme. Strong traveller, good lengthy stride, and will stay strongly. Paul Nicholls in a preview evening said he looked a NH type who might prefer it softer, but Cinders and Ashes was a similar profile and he improved for the good ground. The strong pace will play to this horses strengths and I think he can outstay Grumeti. One to follow next year, too. 3.20: WEIRD AL 11/1 Best fresh, 2L behind Long Run at Haydock after staying on well on unfavourable ground, stable absolutely flying- excellent each way bet IMO given the uncertainties around the King and Long Run. I hope Kauto Star wins by 10 lengths though. Only thing I ask is that Kauto and the rest of them come home safely.
1.30 Grumeti 2.05 Snap Tie 2.40 Boston Bob 3.20 Long Run 4.00 Enter Paradise 4.40 Bourne 5.15 Idarah Good luck all, can't believe its the last day already!!!
I know its slighty early but the market isnt showing much faith in the top 2 for the Gold Cup... Looks like the punters are looking at Burton Port and Synchronised... Prob e/w bets but both Kauto and Long Run are weak at the mo... Im still in the Long Run camp at the mo... 2/1 still looks good for him...
Had my silly little life changing Lucky 31 today - 50cts e/w on: Local Hero (2.05) Brindisi Breeze (2.40) Chapoturgeon (4.00) Grandads Horse (4.40) Bellvano (5.15) All at guaranteed odds, the win portion pays just shy of 400 grand
Right. Gonna do something unusual for me and have a poke at every race.I'm off to the Alehouse for the afternoon and it adds to the fun. Already heavily involved in Long Run so going with these. 1.30 Shadow Catcher e/w with 4 places available @ 10/1 2.05 Citizenship win @ 15/2;Magnifique Etoile e/w @ 16/1 with 5 places 2.40 Rocky Creek e/w @ 11/1 4.00 Already backed On The Fringe e/w AP @ 10/1 but gonna cover with Cloudy Lane win @ 6/1 4.40 Oscar Nominee e/w @12/1 5.15 Astracad e/w @ 10/1 and saver on Lucky William e/w @ 20/1 since it's the last race of the festival. Hopefully a few of these come in or it could be an early bath for Dexter GL all.
Afternoon all. Today's the day we've all been waiting for. What looks on paper to be the clash of the titans, Kauto Star v Long Run. After handing Long Run his head on a plate last time they met, Kauto Star has to go backwards to be beaten. Either that, or excuses have to made for Long Run's defeat. Time and again, most of us have found a reason to write Kauto Star off, but being the champion he is, he shoves our doubts down our throats. I'm an idiot, I'm going to do the same again. I want him to win, but age has to eventually stop him. Long Run only beat Weird Al a couple of lengths in the same race that the former was thrashed. If Kauto Star can't defy age, then I think Weird Al has a solid claim. Big "if" though. Weird Al.
