You'd think it the way he was leaving Walcott to his own devices on Monday! Still got plenty to learn but very talented. All joking aside we know he's a right back by trade. I have a crazy theory at present with regards to him though. Against sides with high technical levels and small frontline, I'd play him centre back. Willo is a trier but not the best and very uncomfortable in possession. Santon is the opposite and I think if Colo marshalled him he could do the job. It will also give him an insight into to what it feels like when your fullbacks **** off without thinking!! I'd play Willo against Norwich though.

Santon should definitely have played centre half against Norwich away when we were in injury/suspension crisis time, six foot something, has played there before, definitely would have been better than five foot nowt of Simpson. I think if he could curb his attacking instincts he'd certainly do a job.

We should play Santon at right wing back with Jonas left wing back.

play Simmo on the right of 3 CB's with Colo and Willo.

Santon doesnt wanna defend and Jonas is more interested in defending.....solves both problems.

Well, for such a tall lad, he didn't do so well in the air, against Arsenal, the other night.

    No. No. No. No. No.

He came stupidly forward to challenge Sagna twice on the halfway line. Thats still better than the four, unchallenged, aerial, goals, against, Norwich.

was thinking this the other day. v similar in terms of raw attributes to Bale. In fact, the similarity to Bale at that age is uncanny.

I'm telling you, at home against the likes of Norwich it would work.

    -------Krul-------
    --Sim--Col--Will--
    Sant--------Jonas
    ----Tiote--Cab---
    -------HBA-------
    ----Cisse--Ba-----

Give HBA the free role. Keep 3 men back at all times. 2 up front.

    I like.

No, said it before Napoli game to be fair.

I've been watching Santon far too up field and Jonas far too back. Plus Santon is better on the right. Simmo does nothing going forward.

Napoli and Bilboa I think, total coincidence. ha ha

We can not start playing 3 centre backs at this stage of the season. It would be confusing for the players and would take a lot of retraining. Just not realistic for me. Against Norwich I'd stay as we are with Colo and Willo. Let them worry about us and particularly Benni. But when we play teams like Arsenal, or basically the better teams with higher technical levels, try using Santon at centre half. It'll curb his attacking instincts and stop Willo presenting the ball to the oppo.

The likes of Napoli etc have been playing this way all season so it's easy for them.

If we sign a quality centre back comfortable on his left (Vertonghen's the dream) I think the formation with Saylor instead of Simmo would really work for next season.

Every player in his preferred position. 3 at the back at all times. 2 strikers. Benny licence to roam. Cab and Tiote sit in there. Santon licence to get forward. Jonas to continue his instinct to cover at the back. Can have 5 across the back away from home without the ball. 7 forward with the ball.

I like it. Can you tell?

It could work in time. Indeed any formation given a proper pre season and dedicated work ethic can work. Personally Jonas is an out and out winger for me. Crazy Diego tried him right back and it just didn't suit him. Wing back is obviously slightly different but I still couldn't see Jonas excelling. We need to sign a left back, and given Jonas style, an attacking one. The option would still be there to play wing backs if desired.

Would I play that way? Probably not but that doesn't mean to say I'd right it off as a stupid idea.

Obertan was far worse in that game. Simpson's just an easy target ...

BamBam2012 doesn't know his right hand from his left, nevermind anything about football. Just ignore him.
