Normally I say 'morning' but today I can finally say 'Good Morning!' Attack Great result last night and a very good performance. Where do I start? Well I have been highly critical of Gerrard recently but last night he showed his true class. Ability to get into the box, into the right positions and to score goals. He definately needs to be higher up the pitch rather than sitting deep and we saw the benefits of that last night. Not only this, but another good performance from Suarez. His movement is unbelievable at times, so too is his ability to keep the ball and somehow find his way past the defender. He and Gerrard linked up very well and is a partnership that most of us wanted to see. He does however need to work on his finishing. Last season, he looked so accurate and composed but this season is a different story. The surprise of the night for me was Carroll. A good performance by him, won a lot of headers, got a few flick ons. However, what really impressed me the most was his ability to bring the ball down, controlled, take his time, look up and find a pass. Showed a lot of composure when he was on the ball which bodes well. All in all, our attack clicked and actually looked like they gel together. Kenny must continue with these three. Midfield If the front three is to stay the same, then we should swap Henderson and Downing for Kuyt and Bellamy. I felt sorry for Henderson because he tried but it wasn't his game. Lost possession and generally looked lost. Still has a bright future for me. Downing was useful but again, looks short of confidence to try and beat his man. But it was a decent performance by him. Jay Spearing - I thought he was very good last night, tackled hard and kept the play ticking over. It wasn't a stand out performance but it was one that allowed Gerrard to go and do his thing, so credit to him. Defence Despite a couple of lapses in concentration, Martin Kelly seems to have found his form again (since he was out through injury). Attacking the right hand side with power and speed and got into the box a couple of times. Carragher stepped up to the plate and played well so credit to him, after the stick he has had. Jose Enrique seems to have found form again. His strength and speed is phenomonal, rarely outmuscled and outpaced and seems to always get in front of the attacker. Martin Skrtel was immense yet again. Wins pretty much every header, gets in front of the attacker, and looks classy on the ball.
Good and fair analysis. Suarez movement off the ball was great, always willing to receive and making defenders think all the time. Carroll still a little disappointing as he lacks confidence to impose himself on the defenders. Still lacking the ability to get into the 6 yard box. Henderson. I'm still not sure. If he's one for the future then he should really be on the subs bench/reserves and not in the first time. Trying and running non stop is not good enough at Liverpool. Downing. He doesn't need to beat the man. Whip in the crosses or run inside at the heart of the defence. Atmosphere at the game was great and even afterwards outside the ground, it was buzzing.
