Arsenal have opened an internal investigation into an alleged incident of racist abuse from a supporter during their 2-1 win over Newcastle on Monday night.

Television footage captured a fan hurling what are thought to be racist remarks at a Newcastle player, claimed to be midfielder Cheick Tiote.

The north London club will seek to ban the spectator and hand him into the police, if he is proved to be guilty of the slur.

The Arsenal hierarchy were yesterday attempting to identify the accused supporter. The Gunners could yet find themselves in hot water after Monday night’s last-gasp win.

FA disciplinary chiefs were deciding whether to investigate the incident between Robin van Persie and Tim Krul and both clubs could be faced with failing to control their players.

Meanwhile, Theo Walcott, so often used as a winger for Arsenal, believes he can cut it as a central striker.

‘In the future I would like to play up front with Robin van Persie, that would be fantastic,’ Walcott said. ‘I’m still only 22 — 23 on Friday — so there is still a lot to come from me.’

The guy who was racist to Tom Adeyemi got away with no charge, so I can't see how this is any different.

TBH I hope this doesnt turn into an anti arsenal thread. 1

1, its in the daily mail
2, Even if the story is true he might not be guilty of racism
3, Every club has idiot fans and its unrealistic we can control them all
4, I am sure arsenal will handle the situation and if he is guilty then he will be punished with a life ban in prompt fashion

    <ok>

It's suprising considering we're normally a pretty classy side, with well behaved fans. I hope the guy responsible gets banned, and i hope the club speak out against him, none of the liverpool esque bullshit please.

Horrible to hear this kind of thing from any teams fans, but unfortunately every club has a set of idiots who do this, if its proved to be true I certainly wouldn't think any less of Arsenal as a whole because of it, I just hope the select few or select person gets what they deserve.

Liverpool on the other hand are another story....

    A) He was playing for Oldham, a club in Greater Manchester, a place viewed in a hostile manner by Liverpool fans.

    B) The fact he's black is irrelevant.

I reckon he was really called a Manc bastard, as many eyewitnesses have since attested.

    A) How laughable - so you think they assume everyone who plays for Oldham is a Manc?
    B) It's totally relevant, as well you know

LOL @ all those eye witnesses - heres hoping you are not called to a jury any time soon. <ok>

It's about time that people got used to the fact that there's different coloured skins.

The colour of the skin doesn't determine whether a person is good or bad and they should just be taken at face value.

I'm surprised that with so many black people employed at Arsenal as stewards and security personnel that anybody would get away with it. Must say I found all the staff friendly and helpful.

In fairness it has only been reported in the Daily Fail from what I've seen so far, so would take it with a pinch of salt until a more reliable source reports it.

If true the guy deserves a good hiding but would be surprised if someone was so stupid to do it at the emirates since there is a larger mix of colours and cultures in London and would expect there to be alot more in the crowd so more likely to be pulled up by someone.

It's not like Arsenal are like liverpool are they <laugh>

What perplexes me is how any Arsenal supporter can be racist towards black or African people considering we have so many players of ethnic and religious backgrounds playing for us!

This is what I'm saying - you'd have to be pretty brave to shout something racist at the Emirates, there are more than a few black people there, I'd expect a can of ass whooping for the perpetrator, standard !

Exactly that, plus its packed with so many other ethnic groups. I would think that Arsenal would be one of the last places you'd hear racist abuse....

Well, the difference would appear to be that after an examination of the enhanced video footage and interviewing witnesses, there was inconclusive evidence that an offence had been committed. Standard criinal law stuff.

Saying that there wasn't good evidence of a crime in one case, therefore there will not be good evidence in another case, doesn't follow
