    This <ok>

I've said it a couple of times now - he's like Ronaldo was back in 05. Flashy and skilful and able to make opponents look stupid, but too fragile and not consistent enough with his end product. If he knuckled down, cut out the rubbish, trained like mad and focused on his end product he could be one of the best in the PL. But I just wonder if the unconditional love, support and praise he seems to get from 90% of Liverpool fans and the club in general is leading him to believe that his current level is good enough.

Liverpool fans will probably know this better than me - has Suarez improved significantly over the last twelve months? Quite a pertinent question right now, as it's about a year since he embarrassed our defence at Anfield.

Liverpool where excellent tonight, we have been very unfortunate that Suarez, Carroll and Gerrard have not started together more often, throw Lucas into that pot and we would probabally be challenging the Manchester clubs for the title. I think next season, with the addition of one or two quality players, we will be there, or there abouts. Good times ahead<ok>

You were missed over the weekend on here after United returned to the top of the league and Liverpool losing.

Actually, I have been avoiding this board ever since I saw City had lost. United 'fans' are arrogant enough at the best of times, but I can only imagine some of the complete diatribe that has been spouted by some of the mob that post on this board who associate themselves with that vile little club in Manchester. Absolutely lacking class, bribary and corruption aside, United would be fighting for fourth, at best!

City, for what it's worth, have conducted themselves very well, worthy champions, IMO....

Not really, no. His finishing is still absolutely ****e. One thing in his favour, perhaps, is that he got to grips with the league quite quickly, so he hasn't needed to improve drastically. Some take a season or so to bed in, and then you see a massive improvement. Others, particularly strikers, have a decent first season and poor second when teams wisen up to them. Or if you're Chamakh, you have a **** first season followed by an even ****ter second. With Suarez it's pretty much been even, with little peaks and troughs.

Clearly there are many sides of his game that need improving - composure in front of goal, end product, histrionics - but most of us are pretty pleased with his progress. More so after this evening.

This is what we love about you baz, always the optimist - indeed Liverpool were good tonight, as they often are in derby games, knockout games, and against the top sides.
Raising your game once a month might win you a cup or two, but titles, no.

When your team shows the same level of commitment and quality against everyone else, then you can start talking about titles, although top 4 would be a more realistic stepping stone.

I was talking about Liverpool but you can certainly criticise Utd's efforts in Europe this season on a similar basis.

Fortunately, most of our ****e performances have been restricted to Europe and haven't adversely affected our league form.

It is clear, this season we have had several players settling in, some of these players have been a success, some still have a lot to prove and some have been failures. Injury wise, I guess you could say we have been pretty lucky, only Gerrard and Lucas have been out for any significant period of time. But there has been plenty of disruption, the Suarez ban, Andy starting his LFC carrer injured, Lucas etc. Tonight was the first time Suarez, Gerrard and Carroll have started, I thought Carroll was very good again tonight. As I have said before, LFC are a work in progress and shold continue to improve. A couple of good signings in the summer and we should move on, and I agree fourth would be a good start.

I think we're in interesting times - the top 4 is definitely not nailed down like it was a few seasons back and this scramble to qualify for CL should keep everyone on their toes.
Bodes well for the seasons ahead with more competition near the top and the cost of failure being so high.

Even I'd say that Liverpool aren't that far off - the chances are being created, just not put away.
There's definitely an issue with all those draws at home, convert half of those into wins and the table looks a bit different.

I still don't see Carroll as a long term solution, even if he improves and plays to his strengths, I'm not sure his kind of game is what you aspire to.
If Suarez was a yard quicker and a more clinical finisher it could be a good combination, but as it is it's Carroll that should be on the end of chances created by Suarez and I don't see that ever being a 25+ goal a season combination.

Agree with what you say about Suarez and Carroll to an extent, but they have had so little game time it is hard to judge, there are small signs that they are starting to form an understanding. I think Suarez for sure would benefit from a couple of players on his level, only Gerrard is close at the momen

Perhaps both Carroll and Suarez may be better suited with a pure goalscorer? As neither seems able to convert chances on a regular basis, but both have much to offer.

For me it is the wide areas where we must improve, Bellamy is our best player, but sadly he can't play every game. Kuyt and Henderson are not good enough (to claim the first team spot unchallenged) for the right. A replacement back / up for Gerrard would also be great. With Lucas back, we will strong in the middle. Still three or four players short, but we are in phase one of a rebuild, so it is expected.

We also seem to lack a passmaster with the vision to unlock tight defences. When Cantona joined United he was a catalyst for success, I think in a way Liverpool need only one or two excellent players with a bit of backup for the rest to make the difference, we already have a good spine, with an excellent defence.

Liverpool do have issues that need to be resolved, i do not deny that, but i think we are not a million miles away.
