What will or could MoN do at the weekend? Martin O'Neill has highlighted the New Year's Day win over Manchester City as encouragement in the wake of a new wave of availability problems. The Sunderland boss will be without Stephane Sessegnon and Lee Cattermole for three and four games respectively after the pair were sent off at Newcastle last weekend. Meanwhile O'Neill has revealed that he has a couple of players struggling with unspecified knocks as attention turns to Saturday's clash with Liverpool. Now the Sunderland boss is looking for others to step in and press their claims for a starting place and is taking heart from the performance of a real bare-bones side against the league leaders on the first day of 2012. A patched-up squad took on Roberto Mancini's outfit and battled to a famous win on Wearside. "It will be a tough one [on Saturday], and we will be without two influential players as well," O'Neill told safc.com. "There is an opportunity there now for other players to come in and stake their claim." He continued: "There are a lot of decisions to make and we have the game to consider. "Consider that we started the year against Manchester City and I honestly thought that if you [interviewer] had given me a call I would have played yourself! "I was nearly having a look at myself to see the playing registration situation, so anything after that could never be as bad, I hope."
It sort of adds to the excitement for me, who will come in and how will they do, just feel whoever it is will do well
...i think "The Game is won and lost in Midfield".....and he`ll pick a really strong midfield...Meyler will be man of the match and Liverpool will try and buy him in the summer... hahaha!
