Without ever kicking a ball for MON, Gyan could turn out to be the best thing to happen to him since his arrival. Talk from the sand pit seems to suggest an impending bidding war over AG with figures of £26 Million already been talked about. This upcoming summer will be huge for Sunderland with MON looking to make his mark in the transfer market. Although Martin is still talking about avoiding relegation I believe that is in the bag for another year. We have the makings of a very good, committed squad, a few good buys over the summer and we could really be set for lift off next season. Bring it on.
This could be a win win for MON. He has already gone on record saying that he'd like to get Gyan back to the club, and if he did he'd probably get the very best out of him. On the other hand if Gyan doesn't want to return the fold and play in a proper league we should realise decent money for him and this will provide the basis for MON's war chest - win - win. I'm a stubborn old so and so though, I wouldn't want to take the lad back, I just don't like the way he left, but maybe I don't know the whole truth?
If the figure is anything £10m+ we should sell. 10+ 6m loan is still a 3m profit. Can't see him playing for us again. If we get silly money that would be fantastic.
Just seen in the echo Al-Ain believe they can get him for only another 3 Million!!! Can't see that being true. We wouldn't even recoup the 12 Million we paid for him in the first place.
I would dare bet that this will be closer to what will happen...He didnt exactly set the world alight with his recent international performances, and I do think we will end up losing money on him.
the 12-13m was based on appearances, goals, medals etc, if we sell him for a total of say 9m, we wouldn't have lost any money on him
Al Ain CEO Carlo Nohra insists the Pro-League leaders remain "in the driving seat” to sign on-loan Asamoah Gyan on a permanent basis, despite an unnamed Qatari club lodging a bid for the Sunderland striker earlier on Monday. News of an offer from the undisclosed club from the Gulf State comes just a week after Sunderland admitted there is “another club out there in the UAE looking at his services.” Gyan, 26, has been a revelation since joining Al Ain in a €6million season-long loan deal last September, firing The Boss to within touching distance of a 10th title with 11 goals in just 10 league outings, and 16 in all competitions. It comes as no surprise to Nohra that clubs are interested in the prolific marksmen, described by Al Jazira boss Franky Vercauteren earlier this season as the “most important and effective player in the UAE.” However, Nohra, the former chief executive of the Pro League, is unmoved by talk of bids from rival clubs, hinting a deal to keep the Ghanaian at the Tahnoun Bin Mohamed Stadium long-term is already in place. “Everyone is declaring their interest in Gyan, and rightly so he is performing very well and everyone should be interested,” Nohra told Sport360° late on Monday night. “But we are very comfortable with our legal situation in this. We have a contract in place which has certain provisions for a permanent transfer so we are in no rush to make the decision now. “We won’t be rushed into it as a knee jerk reaction to what the market may be doing. We are in the driving seat and we will remain in that position until the clauses in the deal expire.” One of those “clauses”, Sport360° understands, entitles Al Ain to purchase Gyan out right for an additional fee of €3.5million at the end of the season, something Nohra hinted at. “Yes, it would be safe to say that (the club have first refusal on the player). We are in an even stronger position that having first rights. But let’s leave it at that. It’s important for the Al Ain fans to know that the club is comfortable with its own legal position in respect to all of this. He added: "The player himself has a role in this and so do Sunderland. The agreement that binds the three of us gives Al Ain priority, but it also gives the player the right to come out and say what he wants as well. We don’t have to do anything before (the end of the season) and equally nothing can happen before then. Nohra admits the club has spoken to Gyan about extending his stay beyond his existing deal and is confident the player wants to stay. Gyan is known to be enjoying life in the Emirates and spoke recently of how the Al Ain fans have become like a “family” to him following his African Cup of Nations misery which resulted in him retiring from international football “indefinitely”. “We have had a conversation with Asamoah," said Nohra. “He has declared he is happy at the club but more importantly his actions have spoken louder than any words. Coming back from the African Cup of Nations at his own cost and at great expense as well in time to play for the club speak volumes. "It’s a great relationship that we have got with this player. In him we have found the quality we need on and off the field. And certainly we would like to retain him and we will execute our rights at the right moment.” “We have spent a lot of money getting Asamoah over here. This isn’t about how deep our pockets are as we have shown we have deep pockets and have shown our intent with the signing of Asamoah. We think we have paid the right amount to get the player to the club and possibly to keep him here. Nohra, who took up his position with Al Ain at the start of the season, also hit out at suggestions the club could struggle to compete with the riches on offer from Qatar were Sunderland to start an auction for the player. “We have spent a lot of money getting Asamoah over here," said Nohra. "This isn’t about how deep our pockets are as we have shown we have deep pockets and have shown our intent with the signing of Asamoah. "We think we have paid the right amount to get the player to the club and possibly to keep him here. We are in this to compete with everybody. Not just to win the league but to hopefully move onto bigger and better things next season.”
