I don't understand why our game style fell apart after dyer got sent off? There was a lot of panic punting of the ball and against a better side we would of been crushed playing the way we did in the last half hour. Wigan were only 1 man up against us; we should of been able to handle that situation better. As a team we would of been better running down the clock using our well practised possession style.

So are all those people who wanted our smaller players to 'man-up' and 'get stuck in' now happy that Dyer put the boot in and got sent off?:emoticon-0105-wink:

Just like to say a big well done to the swans you really did give us a lesson in football with 2 excellent goals and the way you went forward was first class its not surprising we have the worst home record in the history of the prem. <steam>

See Bobbie's been called to a meeting with big Dave. He's not a happy chappie with Martinez team selection, might be worth a tenner on Martinez telling big Dave to stuff it. First time I have heard of Whelan question Martinez.

Very dangerous approach in my opinion - to defend a lead for 30 minutes and just invite them to come onto us could have been a disaster. Thankfully, Wigan aren't great up front so it paid off, but it only needed a deflection or two to go pear-shaped.

Against Forest in the play-offs we didn't retreat into our own box. Feel we could have got another today even with the 10 men, but all's well that ends well. That could be the critical 3 points, especially if Fulham beat Wolves tomorrow.

Yeah a guess your right. I just thought that if they kept hold of the ball instead of stok(e)ing it up-field it wouldn't of come back in to our box so often thus saving me from the many mini heart attacks I suffered during the last half hour!

The problem I see with Wigan (as far as fanbase is concerned) is that their football team is the 'second team' of the town. They are blessed with a world class Rugby League team, and it only makes sense that the majority of the town gets behind it's 'better' representative. I mean, if we look closer to home, we'll see that Swansea's 'second team' (aka The Ospreys) are now getting the poorest support they've had in years. I'm almost certain that the Swans success is a major part of that issue. Unless Wigan Athletic become a regular top 8 club in the Premiership, they will always live in the shadow behind their Rugby League counterparts.

Onto today's result... WHAT A WIN! Huge, huge result. I was following the live text in work (not easy to do when you work in a customer facing position and the computer is on the shop counter...) and I was biting my nails from about 2:30 onwards! The goals settled me down, but Dyer's red card ramped up the pressure until the final whistle. Despite the reality of the situation telling me that this wasn't a 'must win' game, knowing that we could go 13 points clear of Wigan (instead of potentially only 7 points clear), and knowing that Man City lies around the corner (making it potentially 4 losses in a row), I really saw today as a bit of a cup final! We came through it with flying colours and I'm buzzing because of it! Can't wait until MOTD tonight, and we (the fans) can now relax in preparation for the big game next Sunday.

Looking forwards to assessing the big talking points from our game today during the highlights, but it seems that you're all relatively certain that Dyer shouldn't have had a red card... wonder what the pundits will say tonight? Can't wait to see the goals, sound like a couple of crackers!

3 games in a row now of blatant challenges against Dyer . When some teams can't keep up to a player in this league , they are targeted for abuse . Nathan better watch out for himself , cause the refs' are clearly not going to . Really concerned he's going to take a serious injury from one of the " thoughtless " players in this league

Phill, I was explaining to my workmates that Jordi Gomez used to be our player and was renowned for diving. As soon as I saw that the tackle was on Gomez I knew that he would have made the most of it to get Dyer into trouble... What I'll be looking at is the force of the tackle, the intent of the tackle, and the contact made. Just don't think that Nathan Dyer has a bad bone in his body and any tackle he makes immediately doesn't have the intent to hurt the opposition. Contact and force can be seen as reckless, and red cards can justifiably be awarded for these types of tackles. I'll make a decision when I see it, but from what everyone else has said, I'm probably not going to be happy with the decision!

From all the camera angles, there was only one view from a low camera position that made Dyers tackle look like he was showing his studs, but even then, there was no intent to be seen, most Ref's would have given a yellow, but Marriner does come with some controversial history, think he was making up to bobby brown shoes!....................<laugh>
