Nicky will be very pleased with King & Cullen putting in good shows it might vindicate his decision not to bring in an established striker.
Nickys the right manager to bring on the likes of Cullen, I'd kind of given up hope with him but sounds like he did well.
I wish I could comment but I'd lost count of the amount of pints I'd had by the time Cullen came on I vaguely remember him coming on and making some comment about his offside. The next thing I remember is knocking my drink over when Fryatt prodded it in
With Cullen coming on it makes you wonder how Simpson has burnt his bridges, not one of Pearsons better signings it seems
The stupid thing is he should be one of the better signings. Along with Fryatt and Koren he's the only one with a track record at this level to suggest he could get 15 in a season.
Post number 1426 - and probably my 1000th in defense of Simpson I think he could easily be a good a player for us as Fryatt is. Fryatt has scored 10 goals in 31 appearances this season - only 4 appearances from the bench. Simpson scored 4 goals in 11 for Millwall - 3 appearances from the bench - this was a time where the Millwall fans complained that Simpson was crap. 4 in 11 equates to 16 in 44 - and if he's "playing crap" then I'd love to see what he's capable of in top form. It's been hugely frustrating for me for around 14 months, watching him shipped out on loan and being used as a 92nd minute substitute every now and again - and under Barmby being limited to only one sub appearance - May I add - he's played 40 seconds for us this season and teed up a goal. Give the lad a damn chance Barmby before I lose my mind.
How refreshing to see some positives about Cullen instead of all the personal insults thrown at him last week. Hope he gets more chances, also thought King looked good. The problem with Stewart is that he gets the ball taken off him too easily and when he gets the ball I am just waiting for him to lose it although he is maybe one of those players where one flash of brilliance can get a goal. Think King should be given a start ahead of Stewart now and Cullen instead of Mclean.
I'd like to see more of Cullen, he certainly looked more interested in the game than some, and looked like he was ready to put some energy back out there. Wonder what he'd be like if he was given a start.
Agree about Cullen. As for Stewart, it's clear to see that most teams know how to stop him: like any good winger you don't want him running at you so they just mark him very tightly and keep him facing his back to goal. That makes it almost impossible for him to turn and run at them. Once the full back is isolated with Stewart running at him Stewart will generall beat him and get a cross in, the problem is getting him on the ball facing the right way. There must be some tactical way of getting round the problem; as I've said many times lately getting more menm forward would help. It's just far too easy for 6 defensive players to stop our front 4 if they have no support. Whoever is playing alongside McKenna in midfield and both full backs need to support the attack more than they do now.
i was one of the ones sticking up for cullen in the early days, i loved his debut goal at wigan, after watching the likes of folan and ***an all season seeing somebody score a true strikers goal, taking a gamble and nodding one in from 3 yards out gave me great hope.. but im afraid, i cant help but think of the phrase clutching at straws if suddenly hes the hope to fire us into the play offs....hope im wrong obviously.
Regular readers will know I'm pro Nigel but I criticise him where he deserves it and one such instance is Cullen. I have it from good sources that he basically killed Cullen and left him devoid of any confidence he ever had.
He came on (I groaned) He lasted 2 mins before 1st offside call (My head was in my hands) He dropped deep (Oh Crap!) Picked up the ball (hey up??) Played it out wide to either flank (Crumbs!!) Busted a gut to get back into Blackpools 3rd (Whaaaa?) Went up for headers (EH?) Gave their defenders a headache and generally played really well (Fryatt out! Cullen is our Messi!! Greatest player to ever wear the Amber & Black) All Hail Sir Nick!!
Huge waste imo, but I suppose all clubs make these mistakes from time to time. What with us playing so many games thick and fast, he may get another small chance, but the way managers seem to see Simpson, even he comes on and scores a hattrick he won't make the squad for the next game
Cullen will have to do more than play a half decent cameo in a single game before I start hailing him as our saviour. One swallow does not make a summer and I still think he's an arrogant little prick.
Pearson signed him, but didn't play him, Barmby rated him, but now won't play him either, we agreed to sell him to Millwall, but having had him for a few months, they pulled out of a permanent deal. I think that probably says more about Simpson than it does about three managers and two clubs he's played for this season.
Cullen is by far the most natural finisher we have. He should play up front with someone like King dropping slightly deep.
