After yesterdays poor performance and result. Do we now look at the Wigan game as a must win game? With Man City then next at home, and lets be honest a probable loss. If we fail to get points off Wigan, than we could well be dragged into a relegation fight, which would be a travesty. I for one will be very twitchy if we get nothing off Wigan!!!
Have to be honest, I'm ****ting myself. Poor yesterday, poor against Norwich. It we don't get anything off Wigan, It's going to be one hell of a ride until the end of the season.
I've been the same since the Norwich game, while I see us being able to get to 40pts, I'd hate to go four games without a win, then it will be a struggle.
Time for Rogers to show all that he`s learned so far and transfer it to correct tactics on the field . We know the team are good enough to beat Wigwam, but if we dont i think we may be sorry come the tough games in March we have lined up , April a bit easier but dont want even more pressure on us by then to win them. I just hope we get some results against the bigger teams in march that we seemed to turn it on against in the recent past !
If we have must win games , there are 5 other teams in the bottom group that have muster win games . If I'm not mistaken , before we played Norwich , 18th place had 21 points . Two losses later for us , 18th place still has 21 points . The only thing that changed is instead of 14 games to play , those teams trying to make up 10 points on us only have 12 games to do it in .A team doesn't drop into relegation , other teams have to catch them & the trailing pack are looking pretty woeful . Another thing to consider is up until yesterday's game , us & Man City were the only 2 teams not to lose 2 games in a row . We were due to lose a couple frankly , it's not an excuse , it's the law of average .
Rather than a "must win" match I would say it's a "must not lose" match. We can't have Wigan getting 3pts.
We're not in the 'must win situation' (yet). A draw would be Ok as Wigan wouldn't gain any ground, so would agree with PGF above. Cracker also makes a good point that it's only the first time we've lost 2 in a row this season and that's a fantastic record. The chances of 3 of the bottom 5 overhauling us is slim. Keep your nerve!
We at the very least need to get a draw, and that means that our boys need to cut out the 'Mr Nice guy tactics' and start fighting tooth and nail, and it's no good Rodgers going on about our boys being too 'honest' he's the manager, and he needs to impart to the team the strength of character needed for a fight, I'll be very disappointed if we have another loss at Wigan, the team need to take their frustrations out at Wigan, and if their going to man up to the bullies on the pitch, then let's make sure they have the brain to do it in the opposition half, losing to Wigan would be unacceptable after the last two performances, we want a response from Rodgers and the team!..................... please log in to view this image
draw at least, i wish the swans had a roy keane as a captain who can go hard (not manic), inspire and lead by example, most of them are wimps and i do not think i have to name the lead wimp
I was listening to Fergie being interviewed by Spoony the other day (a MUST listen if you haven't already) and he said something amazing, and I hope I remember this right. I think it was that after Christmas, only 1 team who started the second half of the season in the relegation spots in the last 10 years or so has managed more than 1.5pts per game for the rest of the season. I think we'd have to lose our next 6 or 7 games to be seriously worried about relegation as I don't see ENOUGH of the teams in the bottom 5 putting together a run to pull us back in. I can see 2 of them going on a good run, but it'd be pretty remarkable if we didn't win at least another 2 or 3 games this season, AND 3 of the teams in the bottom 5 pulled away to that extent... Then again, this is football!
I thought everyone was talking about Europa league the other day! Every time we seem to have a must win game we **** it up! Agree with PGF. Must not lose, but het its the swans so you just never know
Well if we win and results go our way (very long shot, granted) we'd be equal on points with 9th. Not bad, still...
It's always the way. Win 2 in a row and everything's fantastic. Lose 2 in a row and people start to consider relegation. Keep calm and carry on.
Agree with everyone else. A draw would be disappointing but would just about do. A loss is unacceptable and gives Wigan 3 valuable points. That said, if we park the bus we'll lose. I suspect Rodgers will go for the points though. We'd have to implode spectacularly to get relegated now, but it could happen. I just think it's unlikely. We've got a half decent April in terms of fixtures I think.
I miss the cameo starts by Monk & Gower ( both started the first game against Stoke ) . I know most will chastise me for even thinking it , but I do . They , along with Jazz , did an amazing job when things got tough in the injury department & there seemed to be more soul to the team when they played . I do accept the fact that it won't happen though , especially against Wigan .
I think you're better than Wigan, but you're not safe yet. I think Blackpool were on 29 points after 25 games and somewhere around mid-table (roughly same position as you) and dropped like a rock. Not saying that means that it'll definitely happen because BP were incredibly unlucky, you just have to be wary.
I really feel for Gary Monk Cracker. He's been part of the furniture for so long, equipping himself extremely well down the years. He's Swansea City to his marrow, and must be so dejected that he is not in the midst of the action, week in,week out.
I'll not forget him coming in to the team semi injured , due to others injuries , & helping the team to good results when I'm sure most Swan fans thought we had a huge problem unfolding . The team seemed to weld together seeing our semi injured captain pick up the mantle & play on . Same with Gower , wasn't my first choice but when needed he did more than a job for us . Seems when teams are pressing us & big defenders are covering Graham for the long kicks , Gower got that medium pass down to an art to the opposition's depleted midfield .
