Actually, it is a river in its own right and runs into the Mersey. The ship canal merely adds to your ingrained persecution complex.

Still a river. It is indeed a tributary but it has its own source. Inferior to a naturally formed river which its colony has made zero contribution to forming, merely feeding off it like leeches? Not when there's a superb feat of engineering with which you can bypass minion population to go straight to the heart of the industrial revolution.

Which bits? The bits that evapourate and fall as rain into the lake district from where they find their way to Manchester? It would be pushing it to say that it went straight from North Wales, bypassing Liverpool and the surrounding area, into the Manchester water supply.
