Do it once and you'll be hooked, you'll surrender to a lifetime of committment. I won't go into the old debate about where to stand etc but as our economy is on the floor I'm sure tickets will be available on the day - they do offer discounts for tickets bought pre 1 Dec. Tuesday is IMO by far the best day, quality through the card and the atmosphere/anticipation seems better.
Get yourself down on the Tuesday Toppy, even if you have to throw a sicky. Awesome atmosphere, you can tell that absolutely everyone has been gearing up to this for weeks. The roar when the tape goes up for the Supreme Novices is superb ....................
Tuesday would be my choice. Supreme, Arkle, Champion Hurdle. Doesn't get any better than that. Also the sense of anticipation on the first day is something to behold. Months and months of eager awaiting all released when the tapes go up for the Supreme. Really is superb. Edit: Didn't look at the 3rd page before posting and now realise that I've just said exactly the same as Oddy and Grizzly! At least we agree though.
Luckily I have been able to get a cheap ticket for Gold Cup day (in Club) which means I will get to see Kauto Star versus Long Run (all being well)
I had the same problem a few years back. I started a new job Cheltenham week, listened to the first couple of races in a late lunchbreak on the Tuesday, phoned in sick on the Wednesday.... funnily enough I still keep the tradition of working on the Tuesday and catching the first couple of races in my lunchbreak. Then I work a half day on the Wednesday, back home for the 1.30 and then watch all the rest of the races there for the rest of the week.
Hi Guys, Although i dont get time to post i always enjoy reading the daily threads and articles. Me and my mates always stop in a pub called 'The Queens Head Inn' at Iron Cross, Salford Priors. its 20 miles North of the course but were all young and mainly students and the place is so cheap it makes it ideal for what we want. Unfortunately this year our plans have gone out the window and although im still going to the festival we have 3 rooms reserved which we now dont need. Theres 2 x family rooms (1x double bed & 1 x single) & 1 x twin room. they are reserved for Thursday & Friday night. The price is £100 per room (for the 2 night) I wanted to see if anybody here would be interested before they went back on general sale?????? just as an indication, we usually pay £40 for an 8 seater taxi from the hotel to the course & if you go early enough theres no problem with traffic. if anybody is interested please get in touch sharpish Regards Dean
Hi all I've been going to the Fest for over 20 years but have never made it to a late bar/club, I've always been it a hotel till the early hours or tucked up in bed after over-celebrating a good win. However a mate of mine is going for the first time next week and wants to know if there#'s any late bars, clubs etc for a dance, he's into the 80's bars and stuff like that. I cannot make it this year due to work commitments (Booooo) so I'll have to get your help. Can anybody help ?
