Maybe a bit more apt now with the proximity of the derby but a good article nonetheless

    http://www.theonion.com/articles/you-will-suffer-humiliation-when-the-sports-team-f,10804/

it may be a spoof article but the point it puts across is a good one, and is hilarious as well.

WARNING: to those who use their hate of the other team as a crutch in life, this goes for both sides, it may be advisable not ot read it as the sudden rush of perspective may remove your purpose in life :D

Very perceptive article I think. It should be bookmarked for the next time we see displays of such sentiments!

One seeming benefit from both teams putting in dismal performances is that it seems to have stopped the gobs of the loudmouths who proclaim how thir team is gonna rip the other team a new one at the weekend which is tiresome; and last weekend has brought it's own sort of perspective to the coming game.

Anyone confident of a win at the weekend is clearly deluded.

Not really. It seems a scary reflection of quite a generic attitude across alot of sports. Everything mentioned in the article has been used in one way or another against eachother.
The fact the article is American and written with sports like Basketball and American Football in mind yet the attitudes totally mirror attitudes displayed here should be an eye opener. We all probably feel that our reasons for disliking the other team are genuine and unique but they, to me anyway, suddenly seem less so.

Think all football even sports fans would say the same as the writer of the article, yes it was written in 2001 but it still rings fairly true. That is the last time this week I'll be agreeing with a barcode make the most of it jacky.
