Wow, we never make finals easy for ourselves do we? First off credit to both teams who made it a great spectacle for everyone who watched it, I thought before the game there was to much overconfidence and people underestimated Cardiff but a lot of respect was shown on the pitch and both sets of fans were amazing today. Secondly Skrtel was absolutely immense today, he's turning in to our very own Vidic, He dominates in the air he wins everything on the ground and he actually has a decent range of passing too, the rash tackles have been cut out of his game and the lad has turned in to arguably one of the best Center Backs in the league! Just don't play him at right back. Thirdly How many replays did the BBC wanna show today? They showed every none-incident 5-10 times and played them over live-play Fourthly Was great to see the Owners embrace and hug Suarez, shows a lot of support and backing towards Suarez and even though he didn't have his best game he is still a vital player for us and has a future here A few side points: . Downing had his best game in a Liverpool shirt today, and if he can do that regularly he could make a big difference to our season, we've been crying out for a natural winger for years and if he plays like that he is the answer. . Torres: "I moved to win trophies" . Kuyt really is the player for the big occasions! he does this countless times in big games and that is why he is such an important player for us. Lastly. Momentum. Today is the first big step in the road to recovery, it's ended a 6-year baron run and now we have that chip of our shoulder it should inspire players to have more of the same. It has been a fantastic day and a great win, but this is just the start of our season now, there is still so much to play for and a year ago being in this position seemed very unlikely but with new owners and Kenny in charge the future looks very different now. Of course this will all be hard but you never know what lies ahead but one thing I do know, these are exiting times. Extra Edit: Kenny Dalglish has confirmed Agger has broken his rib.
All great points. I'll add: All great teams need to be able to win ugly. As for making finals easier for ourselves, we just need to make them regular, get used to it.
Picking up on this point, and another post that thinks that Downing is made to look bad because of how poor our strikers are... I have to agree. I said before, that a good goal poacher would have had 5 goals today. The fact that Carroll can't be bothered to move in as often as he should, plus the lack of eager midfield runners, many a decent ball just goes to waste. Against Brighton, the Downing/Carroll goal was a rare wonder, pity Carroll doesn't have the motivation to get several more!
Skrtel Can't speak highly enough of the lad today Performance that proves he is Carras heir apparent.
It's his movements as a number 9 that baffle me with Carroll, it's like he forgets what he needs to do as a striker. He stands on the edge of the box waiting for rebounds when really he should be getting goal side of players and attacking the balls put in to him. Though he has been coming on well these last weeks and we shouldn't forget the progress he's making, movement is something that can be worked at fortunately.
Ps......I think we should play Carra in Skrtels place......... And play Skrtel up front instead of Carroll
I thought it was really nice to see the owners and Suarez. There has been a lot of speculation that the management were getting annoyed with Suarez's antics but they were so passionate. Loved it! I'm still not a fan of Carroll - I like him as a player and he adds a different dimension but I feel the whole team style is compromised. We like to the play the ball on the deck, to players feet, pass & move. We just seem to cross the ball for the sake of it, and you see the players wanting to pass in and around the box but then they see Carroll and they just try to avoid him. Kuyt came on and we got the ball in the box and on the deck and it paid off.
