Sorry Manc, but the Queen doesn't own her homes now, she gifted them to the nation and they're now owned by the 'Occupied Royal Palaces Estate' on behalf of the nation, they generate £27m a year from visitors(all figures mentioned from the 2009/10 accounts).

    My favourite stripper is Candy.

My family tree was traced back (before the internet too!) to the 14th Century in Middleton On The Wold, so happy to claim to be 100% English and 100% an East Ridinger :p

I didn't realise if we stopped having a monarchy now that all the history of us having one would automatically be erased. Interest in former leaders/ruling groups doesn't diminish just because they're no longer in that position, just look at how many books and documentaries are sold/shown about the Nazis. We haven't kept them around and yet there's more and more of it every year because people keep buying it.

Are you telling me that each of George Washington's descendants costs the US government more in security than Barack Obama? I'd take a short term hit in order to ensure long term we weren't burdened with them taking a huge cut of the revenue the estates generated.

The history certainly ceases to be of the same context and value and it means that what remains is a show case rather than living history and it would leave them unprotected and open to speculative development, especially with some of the specious arguments that abound on the topic.
Nazis are a very different issue altogether, but I suppose Godwin's Law has been slow in reaching this one.

I doubt George Washington's decendents are covered, but the living ex-Presidents cost a lot more than Obama to look after.

As I said, I really don't understand anti-royalists, but I'm begining to see why it's not really possible to.

Back in 1977 I was a DJ in Hull and I got booked to do a street party behind bean st in this little cul de sac.
I told my friends at the eagle pub about it and sure enough they all rolled up after Eagle chucked out for a dance.
Hilda and the girls started taking off the tops and flashing their boobs, mothers were covering the kids eyes and everything it was hilarious.
You know you have had a good time when you get kicked out of a street party ha ha ha

    God I love Hull!

If we went ahead with that attitude then where do you stop? Nobody owned any land to begin with. Should all our houses be seized and we would have to pay rent to the state? What would happen to the mortgages?

Well - I give up, chum....what do you think? (I guess if someone stole some land several generations ago, it'd be legal by now - is that what you're saying?)<cool>

I read there's a big spike in holiday bookings abroad during the wedding. Also stats show foreign tourists do not pour into the country for it. They tend to stay away as they think it's not their party. So it's not great for the balance of payments. That's a myth.

Using that principle, we're all Africans, every single last one of us, which tbh makes me giggle especially when I think how some of the racists we have among us can't handle that!

Except the principle's wrong. According to experts, most people in Britain share their DNA with the original inhabitants who existed before Vikings or Romans. What it would mean is that there could be no such thing as racism and that confusing* question on ethnic origin would be seen to be as meaningless and devisive as it surely is.

I read talk of other nations identities and culture (Roman as an example) which have more diversity than ours, but people seem eager to claim our isolated Island race is a myth, despite logic and evidence saying otherwise.

*At what point in history is your ethnic origin determined?

Erm its recently been proven that all human being life originated in the cradle of life that is Africa, before mass migrations occurred. It all started there regardless of where people ended up or what colour they ended up.

    Even gingers!

That was what I was talking about, not more recent (all relative of course) history such as Roman, Greek etc. Real "in the beginning" stuff.

Naturally this doesnt include Millwall fans who clearly are still neanderthals or TWS fans who are still just dragging themselves out of the primordial soup.

Heh just remembered something, when t'internet was in its infancy and there was that online encyclopedia, not wiki and not Britannica, ffs, the other one, bollocks cant remember the name, anyhoo, basically the whole history of time and civilisation started with the discovery of america! I refer you to my previous pub comment!
