Heres some digging a Newcastle fan did before they signed him http://www.nufcblog.org/2011/05/who-is-mehdi-abeid/
He has a lot to learn but is a solid defensive midfielder. A loan will do him some good. He will be a very good player in the future.
Newcastle mate here says they signed him to play in the reserves and get used to English football but hes been that good hes been with first team, if Tiote goes in the summer he will step in so he needs some experience
Exactly this. He has played in a few cup games and has been very impressive. Like I said, a loan will do him some good. I hope Tiote doesn't go, but I trust Abied to be a good replacement.
From what I've seen of him I like him. His role is somewhat of a subject for debate. The lads I know who go to watch the reserves reckon in the handful of games they've seen, he has played as a defensive midfielder, a right midfielder and the ball player in midfield. They say he looked comfortable in all roles but they felt he played better as the ball playing midfielder, and see him as natural back up to Cabaye for us. In his first team games its been much the same story. Against Blackburn he started off in the holding role and did ok, but then he moved into the ball playing role 2nd half and I thought he looked a PL player already when he did. Great to see him getting a loan and I think Leeds would be a good move. He'll do well and will provide options in a number of different midfield roles.
A very useful player who has a habit of being in the right place at the right time. Looks to have a good future ahead of him.
I'll go out on a limb and say that he will develop into as good a player as we have in our first 11, and we have some very good players. At the moment he's inexperienced and could use a bit of bulking up but he pays the holding role very well, has a good eye for a pass and is one of those players who never seems flustered. He can also get forward now and then as well. Give him a couple of years and Tiote/Cabaye (if we still have them) will have a job keeping him out of the squad
Hope you do get him and he does well, only seen him against Blackburn in the FA Cup and I was impressed with him. Looked like he could be Ben Arfa's brother.
Saw him against Gateshead I know not great opposition. But ran midfield on his own due to him being partnered with Alan Smith
He looks very classy, more of a Cabaye than a Tiote I reckon. A spell at Leeds would do him the world of good. Vid of him in international action And his goals against York
He's good. Currently he's lacking quality creativity and bite, but he's still very young and I like him a lot. He reminds me of Guthrie - I just hope he can step up and become a beast like Tiote
Only watched the international one and he seemed to have a few good touches and a few decent through balls to his game. Also seems quite strong on the ball, assuming his size he could also win some headers in midfield?
Think he's more technically gifted on the ball then he is without it, more of a Ben Arfa type player but with a better work rate than HBA
