This is me first thread on here lads and lasses....forgive any mistakes, oh and be gentle!! Whilst sitting bored out of me tiny mind at work, I (for some strange reason) got to thinking about some of our ex players and some of the squad players we've got loaned out at the minute. Here's what I've come up with, no doubt I have missed some but here goes anyway Keane Hutton - Villa Bent Robbo - B'burn Pienaar - Everton Kelly Murphy - Fulham Davies Berba Carrick - Man Ure Naughton - Norwich Zamora Taarabt Young - Qpr Cerny Crouch Etherington Woody Willy P - Stoke Campbell - S'land (I know,I know only on loan) Caulker Routledge - Swansea Bassong O'Hara - Wolves Thats almost a PL 25 man squad, anyway my questions are 1) Obviously not including the loanees, Would you have any of them back at the Lane? 2) Is there any other team in the PL with as many ex players still in the PL? Hopefully some of them can become "secret agents" and take some points off the teams around us in the run in!! COYS!!
My question is they were sold for a reason, so why buy them back??? We did it before in a one off situation to preserve PL status, lets not make a habit of it.
Berbatov and to a lesser extent Carrick are the only one's in my opinion that would get anywhere near our first team!! The rest no chance
Personally, I wouldn't have any of them back as very few ..if any, would get on the bench let alone near the pitch with the squad we have at the minute. I thought it worth posting as I was surprised at how many ex players were still kicking about! I also think think it shows how much we've progressed as a team/squad.
And they were the only ones that we didn't let go willingly too. The others would make a pretty decent mid-table squad and our aspirations are higher than that now. Actually I think Bent would enhance our squad - better than Defoe, Zamora might be too. Robinson could be better than our back-up goalies as well.
I'd take Robbo back, always liked him and under HR I think he would be still be Spurs number 1 and probably England number one as well. I'd also have Berbatov and Carrick back.
again, i agree. Carrick and Berba, mainly. Berba looked very good against Ajax last night; what a first touch he's got. Robinson, still a good goalkeeper, but not as good as cudicini, IMO. O'hara I'd take back. was always a hard worker and gave everything. you can't ask for more than that, although it'd be near enough impossible for him to get near the first team.
i like robbo,my only concern is he seems to have problem's with long range shots, they the one's that beat him
Harry did make tentaive enquiries about "Englands Number One" making a return to the club. This was about the time he first began to get fed up with Gomes, so it was quite a while ago now. Robinson still retains a house in the Chigwell area, so in theory, there was a reasonable chance of it happening and I gather Robinson made positive responses to the approach. The move was supported by Tony Parks our keeper coach, who I now know, never rated Gomes, and is/was a big fan of Robbo's. That it never progressed very far, was due to Levy apparantly being very anti-Robbo and claiming he never worked hard enough at his game when he was losing his form in his latter days with the club.
Robbo never got over the England clanger imo, not the first either, very much like Ian Walker in that respect. He looked not to bad for a bit, then had a butterfingers moment in an England game.
