STOKE CITY have today confirmed that they have lodged an appeal against Rory Delap's sending off in the FA Cup tie at Crawley Town.

Delap was shown a red card by referee Mike Jones in the early stages of the fifth round tie after a challenge on Crawley defender David Hunt.

After studying television replays of the incident, City have now notified the Football Assocation that they will be appealing against the dismissal.

The Club now have 24 hours to present their evidence to the FA in the hope that the midfielder's three match suspension will be overturned.

Delap faces the prospect of being banned for the forthcoming Premier League matches against Swansea City, Norwich City and Chelsea.

Manager Tony Pulis said after the game at Crawley: "If you look at the referee, he actually gives a throw-in, not even a free kick. The fourth official has told our coaching staff that he made the decision because there was excessive force."

Despite being reduced to ten men so early in the game, City overcame that setback to book their place in the quarter finals for a third successive year.

Goals either side of half time from Jonathan Walters and Peter Crouch settled the issue in the Potters' favour at the Broadfield Stadium.

Let's hope they class it as a frivolous appeal and stick another game on top!! <doh>

  3. Well that clears up something for me as I said the ref did not even blow up. I thought at the time it was simply a throw.

Well it will be interesting to see if the 4th officials' view can dictate what goes on on the pitch.

Doubt if it will be retracted. Just saw the tackle agin briefly on the news and will look again later at the highlights to see I change my mind at all

I cant see it being recinded, but didnt view it as RED and I'm in full support of TP in relation to the appeal - if only to make the point!

If that is a RED then more or less 75% of tackles made must be a booking? The FA/FIFA are dictatorships that offer no moral or common sense!

  5. I do not think it will be rescinded either. In the Evening Argus it is reported that the guy had a 4 inch gash following the challenge. Also Evans thinks Shawcross should have been sent off for the handball on the line? Given this comment was after watching the highlights somewhat odd, as it was clearly Collins! How can he then judge other decisions. He also thinks they should have had two penalties and that they should still be in the Cup. What a dickhead!

I watched the match on the box and did not even think it was a foul. Sorry for the intrution. We played Crawley at Home Park recently and it was one of the worst matches I have seen in a long time for whinning players. Crawley whinged and whinged all day long and obviously take their lead from their odious little fat manager who did the same. At every opportunity he was at the touchline giving the Ref stick about something and if I'm not mistaken he was actually on the pitch in your match doing the finger waving as if weilding a red card. He should be done by the football authorities himself. It's a pity because Crawley are a decent side play wise but they will win no friends because of their attitude to others. Sorry to disappoint some potters but the red card should be overturned if there is any justice and good on you for putting toad in his place after his prematch comments.

Thanks for the input.. the more the merrier on this board and we don't bite.. Unless your'e a Gooner or a wum!

I noticed the fat T**T jumping up and down like a demented moron. I did'nt like his comments before the game either. We CAN beat Stoke City pft..
Honestly thought they would actually play more open footie but, they we're more like us.. just lump it forward?

OFF topic matie but having watched the F A Cup draw last night.. I noticed that Peter Reid had donated his loser's F A Cup medal to Plymouth's cause? Brilliant gesture IMO. Are things really that bad Greeny?

I wish your'e club all the best for the rest of the season and, P Read has connections with BOTH clubs of course. <ok>
