I think Wenger lost the plot years ago and it's a miracle that it's only in this season where the club's league position is really beginning to suffer.
If they ditch him then it may take a while for them to rebuild and be near the top again, but I really can't see a particularly bright future with him either.

The die-hard Wenger supporters will claim a lack of money is the reason that the team has suffered, but Newcastle have signed players that would have significantly improved Arsenal, and spent much much less than they did.

We got Ba and they got Gervinho, think we had a lucky escape there.
Collo and Jose took a while to settle in and were given time dont see Arsenal fans doing that with Mertesacker and Co.

A while ago it was reported Wenger sacked his scouting team for not finding Cabaye, and making him sign Arteta instead <laugh>

Arteta is not the player he was at Everton. Good business by David Moyes.

Since Wenger arrived Arsenal have been based around one or two idol figures and several young prospects trained to look up to the idol(s) who live, breathe and bleed Arsenal.
The prospects in turn become the idols. That's all been undermined by the likes of Fabregas, and to a lesser extent Van Persie.
The recent/current idol who would prefer to make mutterings about going elsewhere to win things and earn big money.

As far as the next three matches go, on "form" you would expect a win vs Wolves, a struggle draw against Sunderland and a win Vs Arsenal, but Arsenal have a lot of fast players and that's where we've come unstuck spectacularly this season.
Wolves are a "lesser light" at home which also tells a tale of lucky wins and boring draws.
Derby, too tought to call. Two points may be the best we get.

Arsenal at the moment are very beatable. They pass the ball a lot, granted, however it's not very fast and slick, it's 3 or 4 touches each person, none of the slick 1-2 passing anymore. It's all about keep ball and not much penetration.

I would happily take 4 points out of the next 3 games, I'm not bothered who we get them off.

For me we have to be looking to take 6 points from the Wolves and Mackem games. The mackems are in great nick but realistically we need those points in our race to get 6th or 7th to maybe squeak a euro place. Arsenal I see us going down 2-0 but you never know. If we get 6 points from the two home games then we might hit them at full steam.

As for Arsenal I've always believed Wenger is a great manager. However of late I think he has made some glaring errors and been too stubborn. Arteta is a cracking player and if he'd been bought as squad filler then you'd be happy. But he has been bought to replace Fabregas, who is an absolute world beater. I like their GK but he is still making a lot of errors (typical of young keepers) and they have needed one for about 5 years. Given was available, Friedel was, but they never went and got either despite the difference they'd have made. Nasri left in the summer to be replaced by Benayoun. Decent player again like Arteta but a step backwards as results have borne out. Defenders wise they've ignored or refused to pay the money for the likes of Samba/Cahill/Jagielka etc. Mertesacker is decent but painfully slow and very injury prone. They already have Vermaelan for the injured defender role! Young Gibbs is a cracking player but struggles to play many games. This Santos is injured, and Kocelny is not up to scratch as first choice. The likes of him and Djourou are fine as back up though. Sagna is top class and very reliable. I'm not convinced with Song either, maybe he'll look better as water carrier if they put the required class around him. The likes of Rosicky, Chamakh, Arshavin, Squilaci, and Diaby can either not stay fit or just haven't delivered. Arshavin is surpremely talented but an absolute disgrace to the shirt. The likes of Park Chu Young I don't know about. Walcott has plenty of assists this year and I keep being told he's improved. But to me he has not really gone very far forward from when they first signed him.

They have some hope in the shape of Chamberlain, Ramsay, Wiltshire but they need to ensure that talent is not wasted by buying some top class players. They need a leader at CB, some pure ball playing class in midfield and a top end creative midfielder (your Silva/Mata/A Young type) as a minimum.

4 points would not be a bad return, anything less than that i think we'll have under-performed. The big game is probably the Wolves one to be honest, we are expected to win that one and its first up. I'm with Nobbys Trumpet in that i don't really care where we get the points from, if you told me we'd get 6 points with wins against Arse and Wolves then i'd take it even if it meant a loss to the mackems. I care about where Newcastle end up in relation to 19 other teams, not in relation to one other team.

That said, i'll be chuffed if we beat them. Again.

As for Arsenal I think they're just a couple of great players from being a very good team. Those two players were probably Fabregas and Nasri though and the question is whether they are going to be able to replace them without champions league football. Their defence and holding midfield seems weak when i've seen them and they need another striker so they don't rely on Van Persie so much - where would they be if he'd had a bad injury this year? But talk of their demise is premature, it'll be them or Chelski for 4th place this year.

The players so far Wenger has brought just arent good enough at the present time and some of them I dont see them improving.
I still think we can nick a win from them.

It's really weird that you're all talking about Europe when from my point of view you look like really strong contenders for the last CL spot! We'll finish something like 9th - and be delirious about it - and you'll get 4th! Chelsea & Arsenal are imploding at just the wrong time.

You'll beat Wolves, I'll take a draw against you then at Arsenal your defence could be your undoing but you could muller them also. I've got a Chelsea workmate who constantly talks about "this is the week NUFC will fall apart", but rather annoyingly, I for one don't see it.

I think you'll get 5 - 6 pts from the next three games.

Is anyone on this board talking about 4th?

I think we will destroy Wolves at home and then I fancy the 1-1 against Sunderland.

Some have been for a while but most of us would just be happy with 7th. There is a long way to go and some of the bigger teams will eventually gel. You have to remember Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have all had transitional seasons due to manager or squad changes, or both. They still have a lot of quality and it tends to tell in the end.

To be honest as long as we were in the top half I'd be happy. But it is hard not to hope for at least 7th after the way we've played this season. We're up there on merit (despite the word luck being bandied around all season).

Simple answer no, we aren't ready yet. Also if you look back over recent years Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all have experience of how to deal with the pressure end of the season, our only experience in the last 5 years is getting relegated.

We are ready because if we get in we won't lose Tiote, Cabaye, Ba and Krul for a start! we would also have added finance to get 3/4 more in.

It's either now or never because lets face it we won't do aswell next season.

Come off it. We qualify for the champions league and you think that will guarantee they all stay? They'll be demanding a bumper pay rise for getting us there.
If we finish 4th we still have to play qualifiers which we are not guaranteed to win, then we get spanked for 4 games due to us being a non seeded team so have to play the likes of a Milan team and a Porto. Brighton lost 6-1 after beating us 1-0.
We have 11 players who could cope with the lesser lights of the CL and put up a fight against some of the big boys but the rest of our squad couldn't cope. I think the Europa League is an excellent and worthwhile achievement, CL we're not ready for.

If you want instructions on how to keep RVP quiet - watch the last 2 games we played against Arsenal - Michael Turner played huim brilliantly and he looked average at best!!

I think now we've got past the magic 40 points mark and be quite sure we'll be in the Premiership next season we're all alot happier to talk about finishing high in the league. Safe in the knowledge that no matter how badly it implodes we'll not be in too bad a situation in the summer.

We don't talk about 4th much as we've rarely been in the top 4 this season (i know we've been in there but most of the season we've been sat 5-7th). If we had as few as 4 or 5 more points then yeah we'd be talking about it alot more but we've got to be 4th favourites behind Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool (in that order) for it.

Moreso, even if we get 4th i'd still not back us to finish above any of Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea next season - not least because they'll outspend us in the summer.

I think most people are just staying modest and keeping their feet firmly on the ground to be honest. Yeah 4th is achievable and would be fantastic, but we've slipped up so many times over the past few years that we aren't taking anything for granted now.
