about attendances really. But I thought 26k was a bit of a disgrace. I know it was on TV and times a hard but surely we could have got more than that. On a positive note, the lads were great, closing Arsenal down straight away and Lee Cattermole was fantastic. We shouldn't fear anyone now, roll on derby day and the next round. Ha'way me bonny lads!
Gooners filled their end due to SAFC having reasonable prices and assisted travel supplied from Arsenal. Not knocking that at all, well done to them. Re: SAFC fans. best we have been, if not better than Reidys days, and the crowds are dropping away. cannot blame all of this on a recession cos it appears our club is suffering a lot more than most others. Get the season tickets tied back into the cup games. Its a gamble by both club and fans re: price increase, but lets put some research and thought process into getting people back in the SoL.
The crowd was very, very disappointing and quite frankly embarrassing. It baffles me; I know there are people with the time and resources to attend the game, but didn't. Why? Why? Why?! We're flying atm and tbh tickets should be hard to come by
One good thing i suppose, a performance like that (and long may it continue) Unbeaten on the TV so far under MON, will bring people back and put more bums on seats. Was on ITV free to air TV so everyone has it, Windy, Cold, etc etc.
Appreciate yesterdays game was on normal telly, and don't mean to sound like Niall Quinn's voice box but what about all the pubs showing home games? For me you can't beat being at a game but I'm sure there's loads of people who will happily spend their ticket money on beer and watch the game for free in the pub. It would be a good touch if the pubs followed the lead of the Isis and only showed home games that were sold out- nice thought!! And away games
How about the club reduce the ticket prices and make the price of a pint reasonable and you never know people might just choose the SOL over the pub.. Could it be that simple?
Yes it was disappointing but only 4 or 5 teams in the entire country would have bettered it. 26,000 is a sell out for 90+% of team. We still have one of the best followings in the country
I too was shocked at the paucity of the crowd - I think it does show how badly the town has been hit by the recession whre people do have to actually give up other things to go to the game. So when they get a chance to spend their money elsewhere and still see the game they take it. Maybe 20k is the actual number of hardcore supporters and if so, then so be it. I don't get bent out of shape by this like I did when I was a young'un but I would certainly prefer to see something done about showing the games live in the pubs because that's actually robbing the club of income. In Canada games (NHL, MLB, CFL &co) are all shown live on regular cable TV but they are blacked-out in the home team's region unless the crowd is at a certain level and it seems to work for everyone.
In NFL if the home team have not sold out the stadium by the Thursday, then their game cant be shown on Local TV at all, the problem is, USA is that big they do have local TV/cable, over here we dont, we just have free to view or Sky Sports. Also all the games over there are played on a Sunday (or 1 on Monday night), and over here, they are not allowed to show 3PM kick offs at all on a Saturday. But even if they did it the NFL way, you will still have internet streams/Pubs showing the game. For me they should make it more than just a football game, but it will cost cash to do, and thats the problem, NFL its an all day outing, barbecues/beer in the carpark, watch the game, more barbecues in the carpark, go home, football is, go to the pub, go to the match at 3, leave at 5, go back to the pub or go home.
Sopme people take that a little far... saw these at the last Buffalo game I went to and they had hired a van to bring their furniture! please log in to view this image
Well I didn't attend last night, Saturday is my only night out a week. If the match had been on at 3, I would have had time to get home and get changed. As it was, it would have been pointless to go out by the time I got home and got changed . So yeah, pretty selfish reason's from me, I reckon there would have been over 30k if it had been 3'o'clock K.O.
