Bob, at what age does coaching/ skill improvement stop? I have a basic FA coaching qualification and used to coach 8 to 12 year olds. Got into furious arguments with fellow coaches who were keen on drilling defenses and working on moves when I just wanted to do individual skills and let them try and show off in matches. But presumably at pro level its all team stuff. Barton and Swp clearly aren't going to get more skillful now, but presumably with discipline they can make a better contribution.
To answer the thread, Barton most disappointing, I never expected anything different from SWP. Worst, probably Hulse.

For impact against time on field at Loftus Road - you need to include Cisse so far. He hasn't scored at home, and hasn't lasted more that a quarter of a game. Statistically that's poor. However - nothing is quite as bad as Keiron Dyer so far this year.

As far as long-term players, I'd go with Betty - a complete disappointment after our communal delight at signing him back in the summer. Glad that now he's a bit-part player.

Opposition players? Luiz was very poor. And the Wigan back four collectively were awful. But the prize has to go to Drogba. He had the chance to be great, and he chose to throw himself in feet first when his team was already a man and a goal down.

Sb73 you have summed up the English mentality of coaching in your post. kids literally get their ability drilled out of them! Coaching is about opinions i prefer to let kids express themselves, and never bollo k them for trying something out of the ordinary IF they are capable of doing so. coaching stops when kids reach adulthood or basically stop listening. then its about understanding, initiative and more importantly ability. We try to make players comfortable in any position like they do in Spain and Holland. The FA needs a complete overhaul as they are still using the Charles Hughes book of coaching!!

If you were the Rangers manager Bob, how would you set us up to beat Fulham?

Depends how they set up. As i said before its all opinions. someone i rate in a certain position, you may not!. I would go 4-4-2. keep it as simple as possible as we are struggling to do the basics right.
    Kenny
    young Onohua Ferdinand taiwo
    swp diatke buz Taraabt
    Mackie zamora

swp for lack of better options. you could argue Adel on right with Traore on left but i genuinely think Adel is more accustomed to cutting in from the left. buz for his dead ball ability as generally 40-50% of goals come from set plays but not in our case this season due to poor deliveries.

Having Mackie up front enables us for the first time this season to actually defend from the front. a main gripe of mine has been the opposition time on the ball especially from the defence to midfield. no teams show us that amount of time and if anybody has got the energy and heart to put pressure on the ball then its Mackie. bothroyd is technically a better player in my opinion but probably a link up man rather than goal getter but he lacks the enthusiasm and energy looks too lethargic compared to Mackie. We miss faurlin dearly as he won so many second balls to enable us to dictate the passage of play and he has not been ideally replaced yet. hope diatke can fill this void.

It's a bit of a conundrum the Fulham game. We need to win, but we mustn't make the same mistakes from the first encounter. The left side bothers me a bit, and I feel that that's where we can be exploited. I'll have to think about this and get back to you, it's a bit late now.
    Until tomorrow gents....Zzzzzzz

I'll refrain Beth! But hardy his fault he got injured. He was ok for 4 minutes! Luis, Bosingwa and Drogba were both the the best and worse I have saw on my one visit to LR this season!

In that case it must be Akos Buzsaky. How the hell that guy has remained at the Club is astounding.

It's because when he's on song, like he was in the Wigan match, he's outstanding. Problem is it only happens in a blue moon when the werewolves howl around the Uxbridge Road and the cops arm themselves with silver bullets...

Stefan Savic. When Bothroyd dominates you the full 90 minutes you know you're not Premier League quality. Only reason we competed with City, HH and JB had a field day.

Plenty to choose from but I'd say Agyemang, took the Premier League into a new dimension...

Most disappointing Barton and SWP, both capable of better but you wonder whether they're in the comfort-zone...

The question was 'worst', not most disappointing.

Agree with Col. Worst has to be Hulse closely followed by Agyemang.

On the question of coaching, agree there's little a coach can do once players think they know it all and stop listening... As in other walks of life, that's where MANAGEMENT should be kicking in. Nothing like a solid 'Cloughie-type' gaffer as a cure for ego-induced deafness. A spell in the stiffs does more good than harm. Trouble with a lot of football managers these days is they know **** all about management. They kowtow to the fancy boys to gain temporary favour in the dressing room.
