Ditto Billy, I'm guessing around 1982 ish as that is when alcohol was discovered.

Monty - you're being a wicked wee teaser, aren't you? You didn't say who we beat in the 6th round 56 years ago. So

    Newcastle U. (the holders) 0, Sunderland 2.

A goal in each half, both scored by Bill Holden. The back page headline in the News of the World next morning was 'Holden the Golden'. Shack had a blinder. The crowd was around 58,000.

i couldn't get a ticket. When the half-time score came over the wireless, people came out into the streets to tell their friends. We just stood around hoping. And then somebody came running out shouting 'TWO!!!'. Brilliant. Results don't come much nicer than that one.

Mine was against Burnley in a replay at Roker Park around about 1978. The winners would play Liverpool and I was in the Roker End under the floodlights and a great atmosphere, sadly we lost 3-0 with someone called Noble (who was related to my mate) notching at least 1 (maybe 2) of their goals

Going back to the game at St James', if I remember correctly those were the only goals Holden scored for us. Sold a ticket for a Bill Haley concert which was on the Newcastle Odeon the same day to buy the cup tie ticket and made profit of half crown - big money in those days.
