Mine was about 1949ish when we played Doncaster Rovers. They were top of old 3rd Div (N) and player manager was Peter Doherty an ageing Irish football genius. I thought we would be good for at least 6 goals but of course that did not happen. Rovers won 2-0 (both by Eddie McMorrin). I was totally bemused and could't understand why the old fellahs on the bus were still goling on about Doherty still having it.
1976 FA Cup QF v Crystal Palace. We lost of course in a game we should of won but what a start to watching Football. Malcolm Allison sporting the biggest hat, biggest coat, biggest cigar and biggest head ever seen on Wearside, flicking the v's to a packed Fulwell pre match from the penalty spot....Bloody nutter.
!969 home to Fulham we were still in the top flight they were in the old first divisionwe got stuffed I think it was 5-1! An early introduction to live as a Sunderland fan.
well i was in NZ for the first bit of my life and my parents dont really like football so first fa cup tie was the first round proper in 2002-03 Slough Town vs. Harrogate Railway

1884, arrived at The Newcastle Road ground and tied up my carriage leaving hay for Dobbin until I returned then into the pub for a flagin of ale. Hog roast snack before paying my 3 groats to get in and watch 'Sunderland and District Teachers A.F.C, please log in to view this image beat Burnley 3-0. A wench after the game and one more ***in before Dobbin took me home,
Doherty was certainly one of the greatest inside-forwards of his day, and some said THE greatest. After the war, he partnered Raich Carter at Derby and won the FA Cup with them in 1946. He was one of those players who wouldn't have directors treating players like doormats, stood up for himself, and fell out with almost every club he was at. But Derby signed any good outcasts they could find and it worked for a while. (Carter, of course, had been a conscientious objector and was never allowed to play for Sunderland or England again when war ended). But outcasts or not, I wish I'd seen Carter and Doherty in the same side. Must have been quite something.
That was mine too Washy. I think we were only dicked 4-1 though. Fulham were a division below us and not doing that well , they turned up without any kit and borrowed our away shirts or training kit or summat. Reports in the Echo said they offered to buy the kit after the match as they thought it might bring them luck in the cup. We wouldn't sell it to them.
Not sure if I've ever been to a Sunderland one Was gonna go to the Notts County one last year, thank god i didn't, but I went to the Newcastle game instead I've been to an Arsenal cup tie before, they might have been playing boro, all I know is they won comfortably
Stoke 1976 in the roker end, could not get a ticket for the Palace game though. Most dramatic was Chelsea in 1992 Gordon armstrongs header! in the last minute, and when you think Liverpool scored a lot of late goals in the cup to get to the final. Does anyone realise it is 56 years since we last got to the 6th round of the f a cup, playing in the top flight!, we lost to Bimingham in the semi final. And i believe Birmingham in 2004 were the last premier league team we beat, although i could be wrong. The 6th round draw is on sunday at about 4pm. Tomorrow's game will be huge and who knows if we get through Millwall are still there!.
Same here Do remember helping to clear snow off pitch at Roker Park before a tie with Everton Didn't help as game was called off. Don't remember going to rescheduled game
