I was pushing the FA for a ‘Razzies’ style award ceremony celebrating the worst the beautiful game has to offer.

One of the awards mooted was the Beachball D’Or* for the goals that had some of the following criterion:

    • Shows complete lack of skill from the scorer
    • In the absence of pure luck the goal could not have been scored
    • Ineptitude or stupidity were displayed by at least one of the players involved
    • Bizarreness was evident

Alas; the FA don’t want to participate.

I even had a special award for them too:

Best example of not exerting authority whilst giving the impression that you have

    Shame.

    Could have been huge.

So; irrespective of the FA backing out. Who do you nominate for the prestigious Golden Beachball?

    * Disclaimer: In no way does the Beachball D'Or take it's name from the Beachball that is revered in Sunderland as one of it's best players ever

hey, stop besmirching our beachball. he's got a statue pal, and the keys to the city. they gave him a puncture though. that's the real reason darren bent left.

in all seriousness, gyan's goal against your lot this season has to be one of the nominees, and fabregas' against us.

I'd forgotten about that Fabregas goal :)

  4. Since we've conceded some many deflected goals this season, there's alot of potential winners.

however, i'd definetely have to go for either Gyan's goal or Dirk Kuyt's fluckey as **** goal, that was going to go miles wide of the left post, and some how the shot deflected of Taylor's boot tightly into the bottom right hand corner.

That Fabregas one has to be the biggest fluke, even more than the beachball. Not only was it a deflected clearance but it was about 40 yards out!

Newcastle's 3rd goal against Liverpool, he just mis-kicked it and luckily it went in the right direction and into the back of the net, never seen such a lucky goal in my life.

Surely Tiote's sending off vs Stevenage was a shocker as well! Mind then again so was our 2nd penalty against Arsenal!

Are we only doing this season. because Georgiadis' goal in the FA Cup against Everton in 99 was incredibly lucky

I will agree with Tash here and say the Kuyt goal via Steven Taylor was a farce!
