Last weekend I had no verbals from the parents. The kids really enjoyed themselves and had a fun time which is very important at the age levels I'm teaching.

<applause> Gotta say i think I'm a bit lucky here, my little Bro plays in a Under 12's league and i never hear the parents getting out of control. It was a poor league system, no offsides and only 7 a side, and he has jst moved to a league that uses proper footy rules, 11 a side and all rules, so this may be different, though i hope not.

When I used to play U10s and upwards my then manager at the start of the season aswel as signing the kids he would get the parents to also sign a contract basically stating any abuse directed towards the players or staff would result in a £20 fine and repeat offenders would be banned from watching (this would also include anyone that came with them be it brothers/wifes/cousins/friends) it kept a calmer atmosphere for everyone. Well apart from the ref, he wasnt part of the contract so still got a fair bit of abuse.

I disagree Competition is a great thing it should be a win at all costs level because so much is learnt from being part of a successful team.
What I've learnt from coaching at some academies is that British football tends to focus on the size far too much
I've seen fantastic technical youngster's be told there not good enough because they're not strong
I've also seen big lads with great touches and fantastic scoring records be turned into centre backs because of their size
However in respect to the original post retirement is a strong word i'm sure he will return to it later and I really hope he does
It's difficult from a competition perspective you want to keep everyone playing but make sure the "best" get taken to the academies and get bred into a clubs persona
It's ok comparing us to brazil but you need to remember the kids over there have so much drive to succeed because they have so little
Kids over here (not all) can give up and play computer games
A spanish system would suit england better
I believe that "big pitches" come into the game far too soon and favour physical players
If we kept it at 8 a side untill even 13/14 then it would develop so much technically
    Futsal is a great idea

I don't want to big myself up here but I agree with what your saying. I have had scouts from all over the country come and look at me (when I was younger) and all of them said that I was a fantastic player but was not tall enough to succeed in the game. Its heart destroying that I got turned down becuase of something I could not change, my height.

I dread to think it but I think that in England we could have some people who are like Messi, but due to their height and strength will never get the oppotunity to show it.

On relation to the thread, I remember when I was a wee nipper it was all fun and games until we got higher in the leagues, then it became more competetive which I did actually enjoy, I remember one match imparticular, we got beat 16-0, had 2 men sent off and I went off injured, thus leaving us down to 8 men, but the banter on the way back was actually a joy to behold, none of us cared about the result as much, we were all friends playing together. There was nothing better than a Sunday morning game of football with my friends.

Another reason I think things are 'going down the pan' is that kids aren't interested in football as much. When I was playing 5 a side down the local complex there was a waiting list for teams to get into the league (12 teams), now the junior league has closed down because they only has 2 teams who wanted to enter.

Sorry for the rant but I have one more point too...why does the council decide to pull all the goalposts down during the summer? Where are the kids supposed to have a kick around? O thats right, they can't so they sit in all day playing on their computer!

LOL I was the other past experience the big lad went to an academy as a centre forward after scoring a lot of goals
Then they turned me into a centre half
But i did get coached by the scout who bought Nobby Solano to Newcastle which was a bonus

They try, they tell them to stop it, some put a complaint into the league, but they are about as useless as the FA.
