"The meanest defence in the league" I think were the verbatim words used on the FLS last night. Nice to know. Whatever people wish to say about NP, he did allow us to build a strong defence, and this has continued under NB, perhaps even improved. We were a class or two about above Bristol City yesterday, but still our backline is sturdy. Hobbs, for me, although never **** in the first place, has continued to improve. Very impressive of late.

To be fair, when i think new signings are poor ones, and they turn out to be good,i couldn't be happier. I didn't rate Hobbs myself, and that didn't change for while. Now i think he's a big part of our mean defence. Nice one Jack ! What i can't stand is people who won't ever change thier minds on a player or manager or whatever, just because they don't want to admit they were can be wrong about anything. That's just arrogance !
At the start of the season and the end of last he was poor, but he's improved massively in the last few months.
I was just trying to prove that one player can't be blamed for a team conceding goals. Also it was more like 3 months max that he was here on loan so it wasn't that many games really. If you want to keep it positive then great, we'll leave it there: Hobbs is a good player.
Much improved, but he has no left foot considering he is the left half of the central defensive partnership. I don't consider him to be captain material, but this is more of a title than a role he has to fulfil and he will never be a Tony Adams type. I would say the current back 4, Koren and Mckenna are all in the mould of captains and there is sufficient talking going on between them to keep the defensive side of things tight. I do worry when he receives the ball and ends up going on a bit of a run though. Whether that is because he can't pick a pass or the forwards don't make themselves available, I'm not sure, but the defence is the what our success is built on and he is a big part of that, but without doubt Chester is the star performer. Sounds like I'm slating him a little, but I'm not. He is a part of the best defence in this league and has become a much better player because of those around him and probably in part due to NP too.
I have always rated Hobbs. I have posted quite a few times that Chester makes mistakes that go unnoticed but whenever it was Hobbs people would jump on his back. It's pleasing to see most now realise what a good player he actually is. I've said it from day one that Hobbs will develop into a top player and the signs are there that will be the case. I have also been told by a reliable source that he's first on the training ground and last off it. He's constantly working at his game in order to improve. A total professional. Well done Jack.
Hobbs is a quality defender and i think he will be in the prem in 2 or 3 years I was shocked to see him score as he is pretty woeful when it comes to attacking
He does have a few moments where he switches off but mostly he is a solid defender. He needs to improve on his attacking side but maybe he is now. I also wouldnt be surprised to see Matty on the scoresheet for the next few weeks and then go quiet again for ages He is too much of a confidence player to play in the prem
My mate has had two quid each way on Hobbs first scorer all season, it had to come in eventually Atmosphere was great yesterday too, let's keep it up, all the booing negative nigels can just feck off
Not knocking him at all, but it looks like the Bristol love in runs deep. If their man hadn't shoved him, he'd have probably missed the header.
actually his best moment was second half when he had a "George Best" moment in their box, two or three deft touches until laying it off to the left.. I was gobsmacked!
Just got my self in to trouble on another thread for saying that Hobbs is a good defeder, one of the best, but his distribution is poor. Ok with short sideways passes but dreadful at long passes and seldom finds a City shirt with his passes. Please tell me I'm wrong if you like but watch him in the next game.
To be fair to Hobbs there's not that many Championship centre-halfs with great distribution, but it's something he needs to work on- a great defender though
Someone told my dad before the game with 100% confidence that we would win 3-0 with Hobbs as first scorer; I think he had money on it too. As for this distribution thing, the player who is adventurous with the ball and tries more difficult but clever passes will always seem like a worse passer. Gerrard had the same problem because he tried a lot of Beckham-esque balls to the opposite wing, they were fairly good but people will obviously remember the ones that don't reach the target more. I thought this was Dean Marney's biggest problem too, he had Scholes' vision but his feet simply couldn't produce what he saw as possible.
Scholes vision when he had eyesight problems you mean (just kidding). Hobbs is a stopper type defender rather than a ball player, you are right that maybe he should not try to be too ambitious with the passing and leave it to technically better players, saying that there was one moment in the game yesterday where he showed a lot of skill attacking so maybe he has hidden attributes
