When he left, he claimed it was for getting into the England set up, getting into a bigger, better club and trying to improve

We all know it was for an extra 20k per week

Anyone else think hes regretting it now ?

Ive watched villa a couple of times recently and they have been w**k

Could see an utter demolishing today i think, similar to that of the 5-0 win to a london team playing a north east team.....

Anyway, because villa are on the way down (give them 2-3 years if they stick with Mcleish) would anyone be interested in any of their players either ?

I still think they have a good side but Mcleish i dont think uses the players to their best really. I see their set up as very much still counterattack from the MON era and i think he is struggling to decide what the best is to do with the players at hand.

I think Villa are too strong to go down mainly for the reason we stayed up a couple of years ago 'Bent's goals'.

But if they do seriously struggle it would be interesting what happens with the Bent payments they have left to pay us, maybe they will offer players instead?

Villa like us have the foundations to really do well along with Newcastle and try and sneak into the last spot for europe

the difference IMO between us, Newcastle and Villa is the manager

Pardew is perfect for the toon
    MoN is perfect for us
McLeish is NOT the right man for Villa

I'm surprised he didn't move in January. I don't think there's any doubt he likes an extra £20k a week - I would, too. But I think there was also an element of playing with Young and Downing. If he could fit in with them, Capello would have to take notice. Now they've gone, I wonder how happy he is at Villa.

If Redknapp gets the England job, he'll need a bloody good reason to drop a striker that's scored in every game but two, and he hit the post in one of them. He'd have to be mad to drop that.

IVE GOT A SNEAKY FEELING HE WILL BE BACK TO US IN THE SUMMER, reasons Villa cant afford him any more, and need to reduce the wage bill, if they sell him elsewhere ie QPR they will have to pay us the balance due immediately, he is getting no service, we are getting the service but need a proven goal scorer. for these reasons i think he will be back

I'm afraid after the treatment he got from our fans when he came here with Villa, there's no way he'll come back here Roger

Wouldnt say we NEED him like, we're doing quite well I think considering we dont have a 'goalscorer'...admittedly if we were to have one however, FUN TIMES!

Just playing Devils Advocate here, I would love a Goalscorer at the club, but..

Its very hard to get 20 goals in the PL, there are not that many players that have done it, and to do it consistently over the season (Berbatov scored 13 in 5 games last season) is even harder.

When we had Bent most of the play went to/through him and not many others scored any goals, we have 34 goals now from all over the park.

If we had Bent, he would maybe have 10-14 goals by this stage max, but as everything went through him, then i cant see the rest having 24-20 goals between them. (they might do, i cant see an alternative time line)

So we may actually be further down the table if we had a pivotal front man like Bent.

Goals also bring confidence, so if the others were not scoring, but Bent was, yes they would be pleased for Bent, but its nothing like scoring a goal yourself.

I am just taking this from last/season before last when we had Bent. When Bent scored 24 the rest only scored 24.

There's certainly an element of what blackcatsteve says. We can't expect what we're scoring now plus 15-20 from Bent. Bent would soak up some of the chances that other players are taking now. But that doesn't alter the fact that we're missing a lot of chances today - two or three against Chelsea, one or two yesterday. With Bent we could easily have got three points at the Bridge and probably something out of yesterday's game.

The other advantage of Bent is a defence can't move out and mark the Gardners and Larssons so closely if they're forced to have one man (at least) in the box watching Bent. Defences would become more stretched if we had both types of threat.

I'd take him back like a shot. But I think Sunderland fans burned their bridges in November. He won't forget that. I don't think there's a chance of him ever coming back here.

The money grabbing **** can **** right off, I wouldn't have him back if he paid us. (Moving to a bigger club FFS!)
He is back to missing bagfulls of sitters to score one goal, which is why Saggy Chops didn't rate him.
Those easy chances are the bread and butter of good strikers.

Do we still need a striker?
    imho yes!
    Just not Bent!

After Bent left it took us a while before we relearned to score as a team... a bit like a lack of collective memory Like Tevez I think Bent doesnt really enhance any team ethic Both Redknap and Ferguson realized that as great team builders...Like other contributors I think his England days are done...

I really don't give a flying **** about Bent. If his career plummeted down the ****ter from here on in I'd not show him an ounce of sympathy.

I would accept Gyan but **** bent

Gyan apparently is completely out of Shape. don't think he's for us. He seems to struggle for fitness and has an eye for a pie!

Its little wonder the Villa fans are pished off. Mcleishs set up is woeful, he played Heskey left wing at the sol and he's got him on the right today. I think id do a better job.

    This.

(except I spent the afternoon with 3 Mags, who are starting to heavily question Pardew, high line against the fastest team in the league seems to have raised some fury....)
