Clarke: Everyone must perform.

Steve Clarke believes every one of the 11 players selected to face Manchester United on Saturday will have to be at their best if Liverpool are to bring three points back to Merseyside. The Reds head to Old Trafford looking for a second win over Alex Ferguson's men in as many weeks.

But Clarke insists there will be no psychological advantage for the visitors despite their FA Cup triumph.

"We managed to beat them in the cup tie but I don't think that's got any bearing on this game," the first-team coach told Liverpoolfc.tv. "Every game in football is different.

"When you play against the teams who are in or around the top of the league, you know everyone has to put in a good performance and that everyone has to be at 100 per cent. It's a big game but it's no different to any of the other big games we've played this season, and in those we've done quite well. In the big games we've played and competed well, passed the ball well and created a lot of chances.

"We don't go there with any fear. We go there, like any game, trying to win and with a positive attitude."

Clarke was assistant manager at Chelsea during the Mourinho years, when the Stamford Bridge outfit were United's closest rivals for the title.

He hopes the same will soon be true of Liverpool.

"When I was at Chelsea we had some great battles with them," said Clarke.

"Chelsea and Manchester United have dominated the top two positions in the Premier League for the last seven years, so it would be nice to get Liverpool in the same position where it's ourselves and Manchester United who are battling for the title."

Jordan eyes United double.

Jordan Henderson insists there is no reason why Liverpool can't continue their excellent away record and get a favourable result at Old Trafford on Saturday. Having knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup recently, Kenny Dalglish's side will go into the clash with Alex Ferguson's side in high spirits.

The No.14 points to successes on away soil against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Manchester City in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final, as proof of Liverpool's confidence on the road.

"It's another massive game for us. Hopefully we can go there and get another victory," said Henderson.

"The spirits are still really high.

"We played some good stuff against Tottenham and created some good chances but just didn't manage to put any of them away. We could take a lot of positives from the game and now we're looking forward to facing United.

"We've won some important games away this season and that gives us a lot of belief. I don't know why we seem to have done better away from home this season.

"Maybe counter attacking suits our style but we don't know how Saturday's game is going to turn out.

"We've been playing well over the past few weeks, putting in some good performances and we need to continue that."

United go into the game on the back of their Stamford Bridge comeback, which saw them come from 3-0 down to force a 3-3 draw at Chelsea.

Henderson added: "It was unbelievable how they came back to get a draw and they could even have won the game in the end. United will have taken a lot of positives from that second half performance. We know that they are capable of doing that so we need make sure we are on top form.

"I know a number of their lads from England duty. I know Danny Welbeck very well and he will be a massive threat on Saturday. We'll need to keep him quiet and a few others as well.

"I also know the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Tom Cleverley from the U21s - they are a good bunch of lads and good footballers. United have some great players and are a massive team to play against. It will be as tough as ever going there on Saturday.

"We just have to concentrate on our game and ensure we play at the level we know we can."

Henderson has been involved in both games against United this season, and after sitting out the Tottenham game on the bench, is eager to return to the starting XI on Saturday.

He said: "It was the manager's decision that I didn't play against Spurs and I have to accept that.

"I feel fine and I'm good physically. They have been great games to be involved in.

"I had played in Sunderland v Newcastle matches before so I knew what to expect. Liverpool v United is another big derby.

"It means a lot to the fans and everyone involved in the club. We have to make sure we put in a good performance and do our best to win the game.

"Beating them in the FA Cup was great but I don't think that gives us an edge. I don't think there's a psychological boost for anyone.

"Saturday is about two good games playing against each other and the best team on the day will win."

What's the mood among Manchester United fans?

Yeah, pretty good. We're ravaged by injuries but still going for the title. Well pleased with the fight-back at Stamford Bridge last weekend. Can't say I'm thrilled by the prospect of the Europa League, but what can you do?

There has been a lot of talk about David de Gea - what's your view?

Oh man, what a question! At the moment, he looks a tiny bit out of his depth. Sometimes great, often not. The potential is there though. But at big clubs, you pretty much have to be the finished article from day one. I think Sir Alex will persevere with him, partly because he cost so much, but Lindegaard looks more accomplished to me.

Best way to beat Manchester United?

I'm not telling you that! Okay, go on then. Score early, then keep the ball.

Players who make you tick right now?

Paul Scholes. A legend returns. I couldn't believe it when he came back. It's a short-term fix for a long-term problem, but it's great to see him back and playing so well. Who's next? Cantona? Whiteside? Rooney is also showing how vital he is right now. Such passion and flight. When things are going badly, he can turn it on, and win a game single-handedly.

If you were manager for the day...

I'd bring back Jim Leighton. Oh, that was a serious question. Er, I dunno. See if my mates will have a whip-round and buy the club out.

Liverpool player you always worry about ahead of these games?

Steven Gerrard, because he is world-class and because he has a habit of scoring against us.

Best and worst thing about a trip to Old Trafford?

Best - it's not far for you to come to see the most atmospheric club stadium in Britain! Sorry, couldn't resist. The worst? Erm, no - can't think of anything.

Score prediction?

I'm hardly going to predict a Liverpool victory, am I? United 1-0 Liverpool.

The only sensible thing he said was this.

I’m not saying we’re angels, that would be stupid. As a group we have sung about death before and probably will do in the future too. This doesn’t make it right. Any United fan who gets on their high horse at the slightest mention of Munich but sings freely about Hillsborough (and we all know at least one) needs to look at themselves and either stop singing in the first place and then slap someone or grow up, whichever comes first.
