Found this on the MLS website. "Pick up the phone, David Beckham. Itâs time to call in a favor. LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena was a big part of helping Beckham finally settle down in MLS after a rocky start. Now itâs time for Beckham to use his direct line with the English FA to nominate Arena as a candidate for the vacant national team post of the Three Lions. Thereâs a strong argument to be made that Arena would leap to the top of the list if he ever got on it. Hereâs how he matches up with the rumored finalists: Arena has more World Cup experience than Harry Redknapp and a lot less baggage. Aside from his recent spell at Tottenham, Redknapp's resumé doesn't blow anyone away. Arena has plenty more international experience, including management of star players, than second-division coach Sam Allardyce. And letâs not flatter Stuart Pierce with a comparison to The Bruce. Which leaves Guus Hiddink as the only real competition, although the Dutchman doesn't have Beckham's influence on his side like Arena does. Hiddink is the classic coaching mercenary -- the new Bora Milutinovic -- and his record says he's good for a short-term run, but don't expect him to leave a legacy. Not when the next big payday is waiting. Look, an American at the helm of England is the longest of long shots, but hasn't Beckham always said he wants to help grow the American game? Is there anyone who doubts that merely having Arenaâs name in the mixer for the most important national team job in the world would leave a mark? It just takes a phone call." http://www.mlssoccer.com/blog/smorg...can-manager-who-should-be-englands-short-list I'm just curious for some opinions from a non-American's point of view. The article isn't serious as I don't think Arena will ever be on the FA's radar, but there are a few good points. Bruce Arena IS the greatest American "soccer" coach in our history. I think he could actually do a pretty decent job if he theoretically got it.
No. Mainly cos if we did win anything with him in charge the Yanks would never ****ing shut up about it. Hell, we let you have a late assist in WWII and still haven't heard the end of it....
Well obviously we won both wars, America doesn't lose! So you'd rather have a non american manager and not win anything, than have an American manager and win something? Are we really that bad?
Yep, the war of "Turn up late, bring more tanks, win" Dunno about belatedly - we started sending them convoys and training their soldiers whilst the Yanks were still twiddling their thumbs and saying "what Japanese planes heading towards Pearl Harbour"... And the Second Battle of El Alamein was won a full week before the Battle of Stalingrad
Sort of, I think he knows there's no chance he would ever get offered the job, but he is implying, why not? He does have more international experience than most of the people short listed. He's dealt with the ego's of big starts before. IMO if he was English he'd already have the job. Swarbs, better late than never right?
We are bad enough as it is without the manger putting our players on a strict diet of corndogs, half pounders and jello roles
Lol, that's the East Coast, bunch of illiterates I tell you. I mean I had someone on the MLS website tell me I was "a stupid." he apparently went to Harvard. But it did feel like winning. Oh and you have bad teeth.
Whatever you're doing now doesn't work. Maybe some "Frank, you played like **** today, no more corn dogs until you get your **** together" would motivate the team. Plus imagine how fat Frank Lampard would get.
