Upon hearing that the BBC are considering dropping the F1 coverage, how about another suggestion: Getting rid of Sarah Holt -- They waste so much money getting her to "report" on events from the track. The best news she delivered all year was yesterday when she said: "I'm hanging up my testing boots." And now her most recent blog says some ridiculous things. Apparently, tyre life is a potential weakness for Ferrari - even though they appear to have the best tyre management and their lap times on long runs are very consistent. She also claims that the RB7 "has never been on track with less than 80kg of fuel on board" - Red Bull's fastest lap has been a 1.21.7 - there's no way the car could have 80kg of fuel on board, that would make it much quicker then the RB6. In addition, her "analysis" of Webber's long runs suggested that after 10 or more laps he was 0.7 seconds per lap faster than others. Comparing race simulations, the Ferrari looks just as quick, maybe even slightly better then Red Bull. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/sarahholt/2011/03/red_bull_on_top_after_f1s_wint.html Does anyone actually believe any of the crap she's saying?
The must have a bloody big fuel tank if they're still carrying 80kgs of fuel at the end of a race sim.
The BBC should never have cut 606 when they are paying so many crap and unnecessary journos, even Legard still has a job commenting on football after failing miserably as a commentator.
I am not too concerned at the BBC employing Sarah Holt. She's better than some. - In any case, I got the Christmas present I wished for: Legard got the F1 boot and that is something worth celebrating for the whole of 2011!
I don't agree with this. BBC 606 had become a sess-pit full of people sabotaging most attempts at genuine debate, with the result that many of the better quality contributors went elsewhere. For this reason, I believe it was a real waste of public money, facilitating the whims of far too many children. What a great shame - there was a time long ago that it was very very worthy indeed. But once the rot had set in with such vandalism that it was beyond repair, the best thing for BBC 606 was to write it off.
It was only the F1 and (to a lesser extent) the Tennis boards that had got that bad. The rest was OK. If they'd scrapped those two boards they could have halved the amount of moderators needed.
I confess that my interest with BBC 606 did not stretch beyond motor racing. Perhaps I saw the worst of it and extended what I saw happening to a generalisation of the whole 606 thing. The long and short of it is that whilst others may lament it, I don't miss it one iota. I therefore hope this turns out to be an altogether better place (for motor racing), in spite of its present lack of activity.
You do realise those "people sabotaging most attempts at genuine debate" are here cosicave? Jose Lorca, Fred, LewisWDC. I believe Douglas/Hamish and Xiglly will be joining once 606 shuts down.
I did not make a note of the names of the vandals. However, I am sure that inadequate moderation was partly responsible for the rapid loss of quality; something which degraded about as quickly as a Pirelli tyreââ¬Â¦ I hope that the moderation of this site will be quick to deal effectively with the so-called 'WUM'. At the same time, I hope that those who deliberately disrupted the BBC site will have grown up sufficiently by the time they migrate to greener pastures - such that they will avoid littering their new habitat with similar garbage. Respect works two ways and any would be 'WUM' may behave better when they feel more respected. We can only hopeââ¬Â¦ And if this forum dissolves in their acid, I'll be quick to vacate the premises. There are plenty of other fora who simply do not tolerate it.
Me too! Although that may just show how inept I am with this forum, that I'd never even noticed colour was possible before.
Ha! I like to explore the technicalities. And for those who don't like it: sorry for some of the less tasteful experimentation!
The moderation is good here , but of course there will always be the odd thread/comment that slips through. Hope this doesn't put you off Cosicave as it's getting to be a nice little community here now, and the forum is beautifully set out.
Thanks Hull I'm very pleased to see that scurrilous rumours deliberately being bandied about elsewhere are largely unfounded. A community spirit is a very good thing when it contains an in-built respect for each other. Cheers.
I'm hoping for an influx of new members in a couple of weeks when the season kicks off properly. This place is a genuinely nice place to talk F1.
I thought about advertising this place on 606, but there's so much vitriol on there I think you'd lure more trouble than anything else. It might be worth sticking a few links to here on James Allen's blog or somewhere like that.
we should hire a page 3 girl for the sun and make her wear Not606-F1 section branding...or is that going after the wrong crowd?
