Manipulate the press. He's his own PR agent, he will happily take credit for any successes the team he manages has but will always shift the blame to others when the team fails - usually the board for not giving him more money to spend - and he likes to ignore history and re-write things to talk himself up - such as ignoring the great Portsmouth team of 1949/1950 to say that his spell as manager was the greatest in the clubs history - and the press lap it up because he's most media friendly manager in football and 9 times out of 10 is good for a quick quote and interview.

He's achieved nothing without a cheque book. He's half the reason Pompey are so in the sh*t now.

Most overrated, saggy pile of _ _ _ _ ever.

He leaves Bournemouth - Administration (x2) follows
He leaves West Ham - (Financial poo poo follows)
He leaves us (we know this one)
He leaves Pompey (admin x 2?)

Does that mean that England as a country can expect to do a Greece in a couple of years.....

The thing is, does anyone in football achieve anything without a cheque book..?

Yes, you could say so, but not at the top, where people make their headline reputations. For example, when pundits go all flowery over Sir Fergie I do begin to wonder what they are drinking. Yes, he has made the difference on occasions. No, like everyone else, he has never been able to do it, at the very top, without significant help from the chequebook. Where he really made the difference was with Aberdeen - arguably at a lower competitive level. Redknapp is no different, but I would suggest he's up there in his ability to get the best out of the bunch he has at his disposal. And he is English remember, which at this moment in time, counts for a lot.

The English person who still stands out for being able to take journeymen footballers and turn them into players who could produce superstar performances that consistently beat the giant teams of the day, is Brian Clough. And his was a partnership with Peter Taylor. How on Earth they didn't manage England is anyone's guess. The FA would give their eyeteeth for someone of Clough's stature nowadays. You see, they were screwing it up even back then..!

He's spent significant sums at Spurs.

Jermaine Defoe from Portsmouth for £9million, Wilson Palacios from Wigan for £12million, Pascal Chimbonda from Sunderland for £4.5million, Robbie Keane from Liverpool for £12million, Peter Crouch from Portsmouth for £10million, Niko Kranjcar from Portsmouth for £2.5million, Sebastien Bassong from Newcastle for £8million, Youness Kaboul from Portsmouth for £8million, Sandro from Internacional for £6million, Rafael Van der Vaart from Real Madrid for £8million, Steven Pienaar from Everton for £3million and Scott Parker from West Ham for £5.5million.

A grand total of £88.5million which does not include the undisclosed fee paid to Sheffield Utd for the Kyles Norton and Walker, Seina for Souleymane Coulibaly and Juventus for Yago Falque or the £1.5million paid to Supersport for Bogani Khumalo.

Then he of course had the gall to say that Spurs are in the top four without having spent big.

If he takes England to Success then in my books he's forgiven for what he did at Southampton.
